Free Khmer language teaching for students in the coastal border area of ​​Soc Trang

On June 2, Lai Hoa Border Guard Station, Soc Trang Provincial Border Guard in coordination with Prey Chop Pagoda, Xung Thum Pagoda, Lai Hoa Commune, and Vinh Chau Town Department of Education and Training organized the opening ceremony of a free Khmer language and literacy class in the summer of 2025 for students in the coastal border commune of Lai Hoa.

Participating in the class, 24 students will study the Khmer language program for grade 1, with 45 lessons, divided into 8 weeks, 3 sessions/week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week.

Total time 2 months starting from 6/2 to 8/4/2025.

The teachers are Khmer ethnic border guards, have qualifications and good knowledge of Khmer culture, and coordinate with monks from Prey Chop Pagoda, Xung Thum Pagoda and officers from the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang province to teach.

Through the class, we aim to help children improve their ability to use Khmer - their mother tongue, while preserving and promoting national cultural identity.

During the course, which lasts about two months, students learn listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Khmer, combined with cultural exchange activities, sports and life skills training.

This is an annual activity organized by Lai Hoa Border Guard Station, Soc Trang Provincial Border Guard in coordination with local authorities, demonstrating care and concern for the young generation of ethnic minorities, contributing to strengthening military-civilian solidarity, and building a strong all-people border defense posture.
