At noon on June 5, more than 96,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City completed the first exam of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year.
Responding to VTC News , Ms. Phung Thi Ngoc Mai, Literature teacher at Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1) commented that this year's literature exam was generally within the students' ability.
Ms. Mai said that when reading the questions, one will feel a lot of emotions because of the high humanity, guiding students towards good qualities, and higheducational value.

" Reading the questions, I feel like the person who wrote them sympathizes with the difficulties of students going through the pandemic and having to study online very hard," said Ms. Mai.
Analyzing further, Ms. Mai commented that question number 1 of the test has good material, rich in emotions. The parts of the question in the sentence, including the Vietnamese part, are very clear. Students who review carefully will do well on this question.
Most candidates felt excited because they felt this was an easy test.
"With question number 2, it is an interesting social argument. However, if you do not read the question carefully, you may easily get confused. I think the person who wrote the question has an intention in this question, wanting to classify the candidates' abilities," said Ms. Mai.
The last question is Literary Argumentation, with 2 topics. Topic 1 - guaranteed to be familiar to students because it is one of the topics that every teacher has reviewed very carefully. With the topic of love for the country, this topic is not strange, not confusing.

Topic 2 is highly experiential. If any student likes to experience and present their knowledge, then Topic 2 is a good choice.
"Overall, this year's Literature exam was quite suitable for students. Personally, I think question 2 is the question that differentiates candidates. If students are subjective and do not read the question carefully, they will not do it very well," Ms. Mai commented.
After the exam, parents and students breathed a sigh of relief.

With question 2 - Social argumentation, Mr. Bao recognized that the question had 2 new points compared to previous years: Leading with a poetic idea and creating a text based on a given title.
"Overall, the test is not difficult, most students can do it. However, some students who are not careful will do the test off-topic (only discussing the content of the poem or only discussing the given title, without any connection)," said Mr. Bao.
As for the Literature Essay - Topic 1, the topic is patriotism, which is very familiar to students. The topic requires a poem essay, students need to memorize a certain number of poems. If they do not memorize poems, students can choose Topic 2, which is not more difficult. Teacher Bao said that this type of question has been announced before, so it is not strange to students and teachers.
As for Topic 2, the topic is family affection, quite broad like Topic 1.
According to Mr. Bao, the topic is not limited to poetry or stories, students can choose any work that fits the theme, in any genre. The difference with topic 1 is in the secondary requirement: sharing how to read and understand the work they choose. This secondary requirement is not difficult, students can freely express their opinions. However, students who are used to studying model essays and stereotyped thinking will not understand this requirement.
