The People's Committee of Hung Yen province has just sent an official dispatch to the leaders of the Ministry of Construction, proposing to add the planning of Diem Dien Wharf Area - Thai Binh Seaport, Hung Yen province, which is capable of receiving ships with a capacity of 200,000 tons, to the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system in the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
According to the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1579/QD-TTg dated September 22, 2021, adjusted and supplemented in Decision No. 442/QD-TTg dated April 22, 2024, Thai Binh Port Area is currently planned for ships with a tonnage of up to 50,000 tons in the river mouth area.
Currently, Hung Yen province is adjusting the provincial planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. In particular, Thai Binh Economic Zone is being researched and developed into Hung Yen Free Economic Zone with 4 key breakthroughs, including the planning orientation of the Thai Binh coastal port area capable of receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 200,000 tons according to the direction of the Prime Minister.
Hung Yen Free Economic Zone is oriented to develop according to an integrated, multi-sector model, focusing on the fields of industry, high technology, digital services and high-quality services, forming a dynamic living ecosystem. This zone will operate according to breakthrough institutions and policies to promote business freedom, capital freedom, talent freedom and governance freedom, playing the role of a gateway connecting Northern Vietnam with the world.
"The consulting unit and the provincial authorities are researching and developing the project content, preparing procedures to submit to competent authorities for consideration and comments," said a representative of the Hung Yen Provincial People's Committee.
Hung Yen province is now merged on the basis of the two old provinces of Hung Yen and Thai Binh, has a dense river system with 56 km of coastline, 5 national inland waterways with a total length of 326.5 km and about 316.5 km of local inland waterways.
The rivers flowing into the sea form five large estuaries including Thai Binh, Diem Dien, Ba Lat, Tra Ly and Lan, bringing great advantages in connecting the inland waterway transport system with the seaport system in the estuary and coastal areas. This helps reduce logistics costs, increase the ability to transport large volumes of goods and facilitate the development of industry, industrial parks and economic zones in the province.
“According to the calculation and research of the consulting unit, Thai Binh Port Area can completely invest and upgrade to be qualified to receive ships with a capacity of up to 200,000 tons,” said the leader of Hung Yen province.
