Since the beginning of 2024, a series of complex and sophisticated cyberattacks have occurred, involving data leaks and data encryption incidents, causing significant damage to organizations and individuals.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Minh Chinh, Director of the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department ( Ministry of Public Security ), and Permanent Vice President of the National Cyber Security Association, stated that data security issues continue to exist and pose challenges to protection efforts (Photo: Trung Nam).
On the afternoon of July 16th in Hanoi , the National Cybersecurity Association organized a seminar on data security in cyberspace, with the participation of many organizations, businesses, and cybersecurity experts to discuss and explore opportunities and challenges related to national cybersecurity.

According to the proposal, the Association will lead the development of a platform to connect and receive data shared from the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Information and Communications , and the State Bank of Vietnam; as well as connect with Vietnamese cybersecurity companies, global cybersecurity organizations, and independent cybersecurity experts. The platform can share the latest attack signatures collected through investigated cases, such as malware identification information, command and control (C&C) server addresses, network characteristics, or server memory usage if attacked... Importantly, the platform will provide early warnings to organizations when data leaks are detected. Data leaks will include internal data, customer information, software source code, accounts, passwords, etc. According to a summary by Vietnam Cyber Security Joint Stock Company (VSEC), more than 17,000 security vulnerabilities were discovered in just half a year. Furthermore, the overall increase in known exploited vulnerabilities over the past decade presents a worrying situation. In addition, the number of attacks worldwide has increased 1.3 times compared to the same period in 2023. Notably, the rate of ransomware attacks has increased by 50% compared to 2023 (according to Trend Micro), with Vietnam being one of the top 10 countries most affected by ransomware attacks globally (Sangfor).
