Authorities urgently fix landslides at Km 1405 to 1408 of Ho Chi Minh road, through Lo Xo pass.

There are at least 3 major landslides on the route, causing serious traffic disruption on the Ho Chi Minh Highway. Currently, Quang Ngai authorities are making efforts to fix the landslides. However, fixing the landslides is facing many difficulties.

Below wipe, above slide

Specifically, at km 1408 to 1405, the section across Dak Zon bridge in Mang Khen village, Dak Plo commune, a serious landslide occurred. Tens of thousands of cubic meters of soil, rocks and trees from the positive slope were eroded and spilled onto Ho Chi Minh road. The landslide was about 300 meters long.

At the scene, the soil and rocks slid down, more than 5 meters higher than the road surface. To overcome the landslide, the authorities mobilized 4 excavators and 2 loaders to the scene to level the road for the past 2 days. Mr. Tran Thai Hoa, Head of the representative office of the Road Management Department III.4 in Quang Ngai said: Currently, it is raining heavily, water on the hillside flows down, making it difficult for us to clean up. At the location of the section across Dak Zon bridge, the landslide volume is extremely large, estimated at more than 20,000 cubic meters. At the construction site, we arranged 4 excavators and 2 loaders. Working 3 shifts through the night. We are trying to clear the road in one lane today. However, the heavy rain and wind are very dangerous for people and vehicles involved in overcoming the landslide. During the work, under the leveling, on the ground, rocks flow down, making it extremely difficult and dangerous for people and vehicles involved in overcoming the landslide.

Although the authorities have been working hard, the work to overcome the landslide here is facing many difficulties. The weather at Lo Xo Pass is currently very rainy, so the landslide situation shows no signs of stopping. The heavier the rain, the more soil and rocks from the top of the slope flow down the road with the water. The authorities' determination to clear a section of the road is facing difficulties. Although they have been working hard for the past 2 days, the authorities have not been able to open a way to access the scene inside.

While the work to overcome the landslide at Km 1804 through Dak Zon bridge encountered many difficulties, inside, the section towards Da Nang city, about 2 km from the landslide location, there were 40 cars, mainly trucks and about 70 people stuck, unable to move for the past 2 days.

Faced with the above situation, the authorities of Quang Ngai province coordinated and approached the scene to provide food, rice, bread and drinking water to the trapped people. However, to approach and provide necessities to the approximately 70 trapped people, the authorities also encountered many difficulties.

Talking to VNA reporters at the scene, Mr. Nguyen Vy Ly, SOS team of Lo Xo Pass, said: After receiving information from the functional forces and local authorities about 40 vehicles and dozens of people stuck in the middle of the road due to a landslide on Lo Xo Pass, the SOS team mobilized people and coordinated with the authorities and the Traffic Police of Quang Ngai province to cook rice and provide necessities to people stuck on the pass. The landslide was more than 300 meters long and had a large volume. We flew a drone to survey and prepare to ensure safety when the brothers delivered supplies. We had to carry food and water through the landslide. Although it was difficult and dangerous, the brothers did their best for the people stuck on the other side.

Despite heavy rain and landslides showing no signs of stopping, at noon on October 28, authorities waded through the landslide site to provide food and water to the trapped people. To reach the relief site, people had to walk through mud and soil for nearly 2 hours to reach everyone. As the person directly wading through the mud and soil to provide food and water to people trapped on the road, Lieutenant Colonel Duong Van Khoi, Deputy Head of the Quang Ngai Provincial Traffic Police Department, said: Over the past 3 days, heavy rain has occurred on the Ho Chi Minh road, especially the section passing through Lo Xo Pass.

Faced with the above situation, Ngoc Hoi Traffic Police Station (Quang Ngai Provincial Police) coordinated with the functional forces and the Lo Xo Pass SOS team to direct traffic, bring people and vehicles on the top of the pass to a safe location, and coordinate with the SOS team to bring food and water to vehicles stuck between two landslides with 40 vehicles and 70 people. The vehicles and people stuck were served food, drinks, and bread by us and the Lo Xo Pass SOS team to ensure that the drivers and people stuck were not hungry or thirsty.

Currently, at 1 p.m., the rain on Lo Xo Pass is getting heavier. There is no sign of stopping. The work to overcome the landslide on Lo Xo Pass is getting more and more difficult. Faced with the situation of a series of people and vehicles stuck on Lo Xo Pass, VNA reporters in Quang Ngai province, in coordination with businesses in the province, also transported dozens of barrels of drinking water this afternoon to provide for the functional forces on duty here and the people stuck on Lo Xo Pass.
