The historical site of Cau Kinh area was formerly in Phuoc Vinh Tay commune, Can Giuoc district, Long An province. This was where the first and fiercest battle took place in the 45-day and night campaign against the US in the lower Can Giuoc area from June 5, 1967 to July 20, 1967.

The victory contributed to the failure of the enemy's dry season counter-offensive strategy, helping us maintain the liberated areas and gain the initiative on the local battlefield. At the same time, it strongly encouraged and motivated the increasingly growing national struggle movement.

This feat contributed significantly to the overall achievements of the province, and was the basis for the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam to honor the title "Loyal and steadfast, the whole people fight the enemy" on September 17, 1967.

The historical site of Cau Kinh area becomes a "red address" for traditional education for the young generation.

Recognizing the indomitable and tenacious fighting spirit of the army and people of Phuoc Vinh Tay commune in particular and Can Giuoc in general in the 45-day and night anti-sweep battle in the lower region, especially commemorating the heroic sacrifice of the soldiers in this battle, in 1993, the People's Committee of Long An province built a memorial stele at the old Cau Kinh battlefield and decided to choose this place as a provincial historical relic.

On October 12, 2012, with the agreement of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the People's Committee of Can Giuoc district to renovate and upgrade the Cau Kinh historical relic site.

When the relic site was formed, Mr. Nguyen Van Kiem - a veteran of Battalion 5 Nha Be, who fought in Cau Kinh area, volunteered to come here to look after and preserve it until today.

Party Secretary, Chairman of the People's Council of Phuoc Vinh Tay Commune Huynh Minh Tri and the delegation of veterans of Battalion 1 Long An (Northern region) revisited the old battlefield at the historical site of Cau Kinh area.

The old soldier is now over 80 years old, but the heroic memories of the war are still vivid in his mind. Every time he recalls it, his eyes look into the distance, remembering his comrades.

With an emotional voice, he said: “In that fierce battle, every day in the sky, the US mobilized helicopters and jets; on the shore and in the river, there were always US soldiers on duty. But with courage and bravery, the army and people in the lowlands fought bravely to the end… Between life and death, the boundary is indeed very fragile. We always put the combat mission first. I am one of the lucky ones among the very few comrades who survived the war!”

According to Party Secretary and Chairman of Phuoc Vinh Tay Commune People's Council Huynh Minh Tri, the recognition of the Cau Kinh area historical relic as a national relic is a source of pride for the Party Committee, government and local people. In recent times, with a deep awareness of the location, significance and importance of historical relic sites, including the Cau Kinh area historical relic, the locality has strengthened management work along with education, propaganda and mobilization of people to participate in the work of protecting the relics. The recognition not only affirms the special historical and cultural values of the area, but also creates an important legal basis for the work of preserving, embellishing and promoting heritage values in community life.

The Party Committee, government and people of Phuoc Vinh Tay are determined to protect and promote the value of the relic to develop this place not only as a cultural and historical destination, but also as a "red address" to educate patriotic traditions for today's generations./.
