During the inspection of products, weapons and equipment at the outdoor display area of the Ministry of National Defense at the Exhibition of National Achievements on the 80th Anniversary of the Journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness (Dong Anh Commune, Hanoi), General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, listened to an introduction to self-propelled artillery researched and modernized by Vietnam such as PTH130-K255B, 152 mm self-propelled artillery as well as artillery types currently in service with the Vietnam Army such as SU-152, SU-122.

In particular, General Phan Van Giang paid special attention to the SU-152 self-propelled artillery. After listening to the introduction, the General suggested improving the SU-152 self-propelled artillery to help the vehicle wade through water better and deeper.
"We can screw 4 screws tightly, with gaskets, into the exhaust pipe of the SU-152 self-propelled gun. Then, turn the exhaust pipe up high. The higher the exhaust pipe is turned, the deeper the gun can wade," said General Phan Van Giang.

Regarding the parameters of the SU-152 self-propelled gun, according to published information, this is a Soviet 152 mm self-propelled tracked armored gun that was used in World War II. The SU-152 weighs 27.5 tons, carries 51.58 kg of ammunition, has a firing rate of 4 - 5 rounds/minute and can use a variety of artillery shells such as tracer shells, fragmentation shells, anti-tank shells, and illumination shells.
The SU-152 is relatively mobile when using the tracked chassis of the SA-4 air defense missile system, the 520 horsepower diesel engine allows it to reach a speed of 60 km/h. The SU-152 can overcome ramparts 1.1 m high, trenches 2.5 m wide and has a firing range of 17.3 km, an operating range of up to 300 km.

The SU-152 has an elevation angle of -4 degrees - 60 degrees; 360 degrees rotation. With artillery shells weighing more than 50 kg, the SU-152 can create shockwaves, great damage and is capable of completely disabling armored vehicles in the first salvo. The artillery's damage area can be up to 360 - 950 m 2 , the time to transition from marching to combat is 1 minute.
Meanwhile, the SU-122 weighs 16 tons, has a range of 15.3 km, uses a 122 mm caliber, the SU-122 has an elevation angle of -7 degrees - 70 degrees, rotates 360 degrees; the weight of the artillery shell used is 29.3 kg, the rate of fire is 4 - 5 rounds/minute, the time to transition from marching to combat is 1 minute, the damage area is from 310 - 800 m2 .

The 152mm self-propelled artillery researched and modernized by Viettel is a heavy artillery line with strong firepower and high mobility, providing fire support for infantry and armor.
The 152 mm self-propelled gun has seven components: a 152 mm gun mounted on the rear hull; an electronic warfare system mounted on the rear of the vehicle; a ballistic calculation system and firing element; a 12.7 mm automatic anti-aircraft gun system; a laser system; smoke grenades; communications and an automatic power supply system for the vehicle.

The gun is automatically controlled, with a maximum firing rate of 4 rounds/minute; a combat crew of 5-6 people; equipped with bulletproof armor according to STANAG 4569 standards; total weight of 34 tons, the maximum speed of the self-propelled gun can operate at is 70 km/hour.
The PTH130-K255B self-propelled artillery system was designed and manufactured by the Military Technical Academy. This self-propelled artillery system is a general department-level project, built by attaching the 130mm caliber M46 gun to the KrAZ-255B off-road truck chassis (a vehicle manufactured by the Soviet Union), helping to increase mobility and adaptability to modern warfare.
Unlike the self-propelling of light artillery (for example, 85 mm or 105 mm caliber), this task is much more complicated for the M46 artillery, because this is a long-barreled artillery, large in size and weight, and has a large recoil when firing. Therefore, a suitable chassis such as the KrAZ-255B truck is needed.
The cannon has a maximum firing range of over 27 km; firing rate of 5 - 8 rounds/minute; muzzle velocity of 930 m/second; direction angle range from minus 25 - 25 degrees; elevation angle range from 0 - 45 degrees. The time to switch from marching to combat and vice versa is under 4 minutes.

Among the above self-propelled artillery types, SU-152 and SU-122 are the two self-propelled artillery types participating in the parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2.
According to the explanation, SU-152 and SU-122 are modern operational and tactical artillery pieces with high mobility, strong power, fast firing rate, high accuracy, suitable for modern combat requirements.
