Bright spot in socializing fire prevention and fighting work

To prevent fires and explosions, make the most of the "golden time" to fight fires when they occur, and minimize damage to people and property, the Party Committee and People's Committee of Tho Tang town (Vinh Tuong) have stepped up propaganda and socialized fire prevention and fighting (PCCC) and rescue work, mobilizing all people to contribute their efforts and money for the common goal.

Tho Tang town is a “small trader village” with about 2,000 individual business households, more than 250 small and medium enterprises and cooperatives operating with diverse types of production and business, creating many jobs for workers. However, bustling production and business activities also lead to a high risk of fire and explosion.

To proactively prevent fires and explosions, protect people's lives and property, and create a solid foundation for socio -economic development, the Party Committee and People's Committee of the town always pay attention to fire prevention and fighting and search and rescue work. Regularly propagate to people and businesses to comply with the provisions of the law on fire prevention and fighting; tighten discipline and order, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of State management in this work.

Vice Chairman of Tho Tang Town People's Committee Nguyen Van Sang said: "Water supply infrastructure plays an important role, contributing to improving the effectiveness of fire fighting and rescue work when a fire or explosion occurs.

However, according to statistics, there are still many areas in the town that have not invested in or planned water sources for fire fighting. The whole town only has 10 fire hydrants, causing many difficulties, prolonging the time and affecting the tactics and effectiveness of fire fighting.

A typical example is the fire at around 9:10 p.m. on February 28, 2025 at a household's warehouse, then spread to 5 other households with houses and businesses in the new neighborhood, Bac Cuong residential group.

The burnt facilities all have the common characteristic of being located in areas where fire hydrants have been installed, but too few, and there is no planning for water sources such as ponds, lakes, canals, or fire hydrants. The consequences of the fire caused damage to some households' property, but no human casualties.

Identifying one of the solutions to overcome the above situation is to mobilize maximum social resources to invest in fire prevention and fighting, search and rescue work, the Town People's Committee met with households to pilot the installation of fire prevention and fighting hydrants connected to the clean water supply system using socialized capital in the new urban area in Bac Cuong residential group.

The results have been highly agreed upon by the people. Up to now, 14 fire protection towers and accompanying fire protection equipment have been installed with a value of nearly 300 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vui, a resident of Bac Cuong residential group, said: "Having witnessed the destruction of the fire with my own eyes, I, like many residents of the residential group, clearly understand the importance of taking prevention as the main focus in fire prevention work.

Therefore, when the town government and the fire police force promoted and encouraged us to pilot the installation of fire hydrants connected to the clean water supply system, we agreed and actively contributed.

Through testing, we found it very effective, the water pressure after increasing pressure is equivalent to the fire hose of the functional force. I hope that the functional force will have many training sessions, instructing people on skills, making the most of the golden time to fight fires to limit damage to people."

To replicate the model, Tho Tang town continues to review and count key areas and facilities with high risk of fire and explosion, and inadequate traffic, water sources, and fire prevention and fighting systems to prioritize investment resources and ensure fire prevention and fighting and rescue work.

Promote propaganda, mobilize socialization, mobilize resources from organizations, businesses and people to invest in and equip fire prevention and fighting equipment, focusing on installing fire hydrants, purchasing fire prevention and fighting equipment and vehicles.

The town police have done a good job of propagating, disseminating,educating the law and knowledge of fire prevention and fighting, helping people and businesses see the risks, causes and harms caused by fires, and providing guidance on fire and explosion prevention measures.

At the same time, assess the current status of the mass movement for fire prevention and fighting and search and rescue, replicate advanced models and examples in fire prevention and fighting work, especially the models of "Fire Prevention and Fighting Inter-family Group" and "Public Fire Fighting Point".

Organize fire safety inspections for facilities assigned according to authority; disseminate and provide professional training to civil defense teams and residents; organize practice and drills on fire fighting and rescue plans with the mobilization of many forces and means in residential areas and socialized locations for installing fire hydrants...
