Leaders of the Women's Union of Co Do district and the Women's Union of Dong Thang commune handed over the House of Love to female members in difficult circumstances.

Taking advantage of the off-season, members of the Water Hyacinth Weaving Cooperative (THT) in Dong My Hamlet, Dong Thang Commune, take on weaving water hyacinth rugs for processing. This is an easy-to-learn and easy-to-do craft; after just a few days of training, women can make simple products. Ms. Pham Thi My Chau, Head of the Women's Association of Dong My Hamlet, excitedly said: “The Water Hyacinth Weaving Cooperative in Dong My Hamlet was established in September 2022. At first, the cooperative had 10 members, but now it has attracted 30 members. I teach the members the craft and they will take the products home to make, then deliver the finished products according to the scheduled schedule. This job helps women balance between taking care of their families and taking advantage of their free time to increase their income.”

In recent years, the Water Hyacinth Weaving Group has been operating quite stably, with a guaranteed supply of goods at a processing price of 8,000-11,000 VND/carpet. Fortunately, recently, the supply of goods has increased, the processing price has increased to 17,000 VND/carpet, contributing to increasing the income of members. Currently, on average, each member of the group can weave 15 carpets per day, earning about 4 million VND/month. To support the group members in developing the water hyacinth weaving profession, in addition to finding outlets, the Women's Union of Dong Thang commune supports and introduces 15 members to borrow capital from the Fund to support Women's Economic Development in Can Tho City to buy water hyacinth materials for production.

Together with the Water Hyacinth Weaving Cooperative in Dong My Hamlet, the Women's Union of Dong Thang Commune mobilized to establish and maintain the "Weaving and Assembling Lu" model, contributing to creating jobs for 14 members, women with an average income of 100,000-250,000 VND/person/day; the "Weaving plastic rope" model with 15 members participating, bringing in an income of 80,000-120,000 VND/person/day; the snakehead fish farming model, the Khmer ethnic women's model of maintaining and promoting the traditional cake making profession... also developed strongly.

According to Ms. Le Kim Luyen, President of the Women's Union of Dong Thang commune, in order to promote the role of a fulcrum to help members and women improve their lives, the Women's Union of the commune is interested in understanding the living conditions and aspirations of women to implement practical support activities. In particular, it focuses on taking care of issues closely related to women, such as: starting a business; vocational training, job introduction; building an economic model suitable to the characteristics of the locality; creating conditions for women to access preferential loans for economic development... The whole commune currently has 7 savings and loan groups from the Social Policy Bank managed by the Union, helping 382 members borrow capital with a total outstanding debt of over 15 billion VND.

In addition, the Association also supported and introduced 37 members to borrow capital from the Can Tho City Women's Economic Development Support Fund with a debt balance of over 277 million VND. From the first half of the 2021-2026 term up to now, the Association has registered and helped 30 women start businesses; regularly coordinate with relevant units to open training courses on science and technology transfer; introduce more than 300 workers to work at companies and factories in and outside Can Tho City...

The Women's Union of Dong Thang commune also cares about helping members and their children in difficult circumstances. As one of the members in difficult circumstances who was given a Warm House, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan in Dong My hamlet, Dong Thang commune, confided: "I am a single mother raising 2 children. In recent years, due to not having a stable job, my family's life has encountered many difficulties, the old house has deteriorated and is dilapidated. The Women's Union of Co Do district mobilized 32 million VND in support, the Women's Union of Dong Thang commune mobilized 60 working days to help me have a safe home". From the first half of the 2021-2026 term up to now, the Women's Union of Dong Thang commune has supported the construction of 2 Warm Houses for members; coordinated to mobilize hundreds of gifts and notebooks for members' children and families in difficult circumstances in the area.

With the motto "Where there are women, there are Association activities" and practical, specific and creative actions, from the first half of the 2021-2026 term up to now, the Association has coordinated to help 18 poor and near-poor households rise up to escape poverty sustainably.
