Dien Bien welcomes first passengers on Hanoi flight

At 10:25 on December 2, flight number VN1802 of Vietnam Airlines departing from Noi Bai airport brought the first passengers to Dien Bien airport.

After landing at the airport, the Airbus A321 was welcomed with a water cannon ceremony, marking the resumption of the Hanoi - Dien Bien route after more than 8 months of interruption for airport renovation and expansion.

Now, the journey from Hanoi Capital to the historic Northwest region is shortened to only 1 hour flight.

Immediately after landing, Vietnam Airlines cut the ribbon to inaugurate the first commercial flight using an Airbus A321 to Dien Bien with the participation of leaders of the Ministry of Transport, the State Capital Management Committee, Dien Bien province and passengers on the flight. Five lucky passengers received special gifts of air tickets for any domestic route.

The safe operation of the modern A321 jet aircraft at Dien Bien airport is considered an important milestone in the Vietnamese aviation industry, as well as opening up new development opportunities for the economy and society of Dien Bien province.

Vietnam Airlines operates the Hanoi - Dien Bien route with a frequency of 7 round trips per week, departing on all days of the week. Flights depart from Hanoi at 13:05 and are expected to arrive in Dien Bien at 14:05. Return flights depart from Dien Bien at 14:45 and are expected to land in Hanoi at 15:35.

Also on this occasion, Vietnam Airlines and the People's Committee of Dien Bien province signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement for the period 2024-2028. Accordingly, Dien Bien province and Vietnam Airlines will strengthen cooperation so that Dien Bien province in particular and the Northwestern economic region in general can accelerate economic and social development.

The two sides will promote cooperation in investment-trade-tourism-aviation promotion activities; coordinate research on tourism products, routes and destinations; and organize or participate in foreign affairs, education, culture, sports, tourism, investment and trade events of national and regional scale.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Le Thanh Do, Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee, said that in order to concretize the comprehensive cooperation agreement between Dien Bien province and Vietnam Airlines in the period of 2024-2028, especially Dien Bien National Tourism Year 2024, associated with the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory, on the side of the Provincial People's Committee, Vietnam Airlines was requested to direct its affiliated units to coordinate with agencies of Dien Bien province to develop an Action Plan for 2024.

The contents and cooperation activities need to be specific, clearly stating the responsibilities of each party based on each event of the approved National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024, in order to create a new driving force for the tourism industry of Dien Bien province and promote the advantages and potentials of each party, thereby contributing to the economy, as well as serving the needs of the people.

The Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee also requested Vietnam Airlines to continue studying increasing flight frequency on existing routes, opening more routes connecting Dien Bien with other provinces and cities in the country and some countries in the region when conditions permit.

On Dien Bien's side, the province also committed to strengthening coordination with relevant agencies of the aviation industry and Vietnam Airlines, creating favorable conditions in the process of implementing and organizing transportation activities in Dien Bien.

The provincial focal agency is responsible for coordinating with the focal agency of Vietnam Airlines, and relevant local departments, agencies and units to advertise Vietnam Airlines' products and services on the provincial media.

At the same time, introduce typical tourism products, events, festivals, major events of the province; encourage and prioritize the use of services of Vietnam Airlines and airlines belonging to Vietnam Airlines Group...

According to Mr. Le Hong Ha, General Director of Vietnam Airlines, the upgrading and expansion of Dien Bien airport will "give wings" to Dien Bien's tourism and economy; contribute to promoting regional and international connectivity by perfecting the types of transport: road, rail and air.

With the advantage of fast flight time and high frequency, Vietnam Airlines believes it will be an effective bridge to bring tourists and investors to explore the historical land of the Northwest conveniently, shortening geographical distances as well as making the transportation and circulation of goods easier...
