On the morning of November 6, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced that the organizing committee of the 33rd SEA Games had changed the competition schedule and venue of the Vietnam U22 team.
The 33rd SEA Games men's football competition has 10 participating teams, divided into 3 groups. Groups A and B have 3 teams, Group C has 4 teams. The teams will compete in a round robin; the three group winners and the second-best team will advance to the semi-finals.
According to the old schedule, the U22 Vietnam team in Group B will compete in Chiangmai. The team will meet U22 Laos (December 5) and U22 Malaysia (December 11) to compete for a ticket to the semi-finals.
Three stadiums were selected to host the tournament, including Rajamangala (Bangkok), Tinsulanonda (Songkhla) and 700th Anniversary of Chiangmai (Chiangmai), with Rajamangala hosting the semi-finals and finals.
However, according to the latest change from host Thailand, the matches in Group B will be moved from Chiangmai to Songkhla. Specifically, the U22 Vietnam team will meet U22 Laos on December 4, and meet U22 Malaysia on December 11.
The Vietnam U22 team will gather on November 10 in Hanoi and then go to China to participate in the 2025 Panda Cup international friendly tournament under the leadership of acting head coach Dinh Hong Vinh. The Vietnam U22 team will meet China U22 (November 12), Uzbekistan U22 (November 15) and Korea U22 (November 18).
Immediately after the tournament ends in China, the Vietnam U22 team will train in Vung Tau from November 23 to 29, then leave for Thailand on December 2 to attend the 33rd SEA Games.
Coach Kim Sang Sik is expected to call up 26 players for the final preparation phase of SEA Games 33.
In this training session, the Korean coach will let 8 U22 players who just joined the Vietnam team during FIFA Days in October join the Vietnam U22 team to perfect the squad and tactics.
