Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park boasts over 1,000 caves, of which 425 have been surveyed and mapped. Notably, Son Doong is the world's largest cave. With an annual tourist growth rate exceeding 12%, the park has attracted over 10.5 million visitors (including over 1 million international tourists), generating over 1,900 billion VND in revenue from fees and charges. Visiting Quang Binh – “the land of endless mysteries” – tourists will have the opportunity to explore the forests and seas, enjoying many exciting and captivating experiences. This is also the time when many new tourism products are being launched. The mysteries deep within the magnificent cave system are gradually being unveiled, offering tourists a full range of discoveries and a complete experience.
In May 2024, Jungle Boss Co., Ltd. discovered a large lake inside Thung Cave, part of the Hung Thoong cave system. The impressive feature of this lake is that it sits approximately 15 meters above the main underground river branch within the cave, seemingly "suspended" on the cave wall. With a surface area of about 100 square meters , surrounded by stalactite columns, it is located about 1 kilometer from the cave entrance.
According to Mr. Le Luu Dung, the company's director, Hung Thoong is one of the most pristine areas of Phong Nha-Ke Bang. The unique and distinctive Hung Thoong system features numerous caves deep within the Phong Nha-Ke Bang rainforest, surrounded by centuries-old limestone mountains. Kicking off the vibrant 2024 tourism season, Khe Nuoc Lanh Eco-tourism Area (Truong Xuan commune, Quang Ninh province) is launching with a new look. After years of planning, this tourist area is now under construction with facilities including: restaurants, various water sports activities, overnight camping areas, and scenic "check-in" spots suitable for a wide range of tourists. Based on the principle of developing tourism while protecting natural resources and respecting the existing natural landscape, the investor uses environmentally friendly materials, creating a close connection with nature while also providing all the basic amenities.
Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the cool, refreshing water, admire the pristine mountain and forest scenery, and enjoy the distinctive cuisine prepared by the local people. Although only recently opened to the public, Khe Nuoc Lanh has already attracted tourists and is expected to become a highlight of tourism, connecting tourist destinations in southwestern Quang Binh.
According to the Department of Tourism's report, the province currently has nearly 40 tourism products, areas, and attractions that have had their projects approved or have been granted permission for trial operation. The Temple of the Holy Mother Lieu Hanh in Quang Dong commune (Quang Trach district) has also been recognized as a tourist destination according to the 2017 Tourism Law. In the future, as new products are launched, projects on ecotourism and resort tourism development are implemented, along with improvements in service quality, creating opportunities to offer new experiences for tourists. “With the goal of accelerating tourism revenue growth to an average of 20-25% per year during the 2021-2025 period, Dong Hoi is currently strengthening investment in developing infrastructure and technical facilities to serve tourism, along with diversifying new tourism products. Many large-scale projects are being invested in and developed synchronously throughout the city, with many urban areas and constructions following green architecture trends to cope with climate change. Commercial and social housing urban areas, some main roads, smaller-scale traffic routes, sidewalks, traffic signs, lighting, drainage systems, and some bus and parking areas are gradually being completed. In particular, Dong Hoi City has just invested over 15 billion VND to build and put into operation five standard public restrooms and one semi-automatic restroom at major tourist destinations in the city,” said the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Hoi City. After the completion of these facilities, the Dong Hoi City Public Service Management Board (BQL DVCI) will take over their management and operation. These are the first standard-compliant public restrooms built at tourist destinations in Quang Binh province and are completely free of charge. Two of these facilities are located in the Bao Ninh beach square, two along the Nhat Le beach, and one at the city's night market square (opposite the Dong Hoi City People's Committee)... The public restrooms are designed as semi-underground structures to minimize obstruction of tourists' views and reduce impact on the landscape. Inside, the facilities are equipped with automatic systems and modern auxiliary features such as ventilation systems, air dryers, and decorative LED lighting.
According to Tran Duy Khanh, Director of the Dong Hoi City Service Management Board, after a short period of operation, most tourists have shared positive feedback and are satisfied with the new services of the coastal city. However, to ensure smooth operation and long-term sustainability, and to maximize the effectiveness of the facilities, in addition to efforts to maintain hygiene, ensure beautiful scenery, cleanliness, and convenience for tourists, the unit hopes to receive the cooperation and increased awareness of protection from individual users, including tourists and local residents. In the future, it is hoped that the province and city will continue to invest in building more similar facilities, evenly distributed at tourist spots, especially at Nhat Le and Bao Ninh beaches, to meet the needs of the increasing number of tourists visiting the area.
