Mr. Hoang Duc Tan, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Water Sports Center, said that he has been trying his best in recent days to bring a real "party" on the water at Bach Dang wharf on the evenings of April 29 and April 30.
Promises a colorful night
It is a water sports performance in a series of activities with the theme "Colors of Uncle Ho's City". Mr. Tan said the performance will have many notable points and the audience will admire the unique combination of windsurfing, paragliding and canoe pulling athletes - an energetic opening performance.
Next was a parade on the river with splendid speedboats, torches and flares. Most special was the presence of typical athletes from different periods such as Nguyen Kieu Oanh, Anh Vien, Jérémie Nino, Lam Quang Nhat, Ho Thi Ly... They are the shining stars of water sports.
From the first "swimming queen" like Kieu Oanh, to the "little mermaid" Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and famous regional swimmers like Quang Nhat, Nino (Vietnamese-American swimmer) and rowing star who won the Asian Games gold medal Ho Thi Ly.
They will be escorted by a powerful fleet of jet skis and a special flag salute by high-flying flyboards. The director has designed separate segments so that each sport such as jetboard, flyboard, jet ski, sailing... has the opportunity to shine, demonstrating top techniques and smooth coordination.
In particular, the final collective performance will gather most of the vehicles and athletes with brilliant national flag effects, LED armor, fireworks, flares... All blending in with emotional music .
Mr. Tan shared: "Water sports on the Saigon River on the upcoming historic night of April 30 is not only a technical performance, but also a story told through images and sounds. The selected songs all carry the spirit of Vietnam, the spirit of Ho Chi Minh City such as "Dong mau lac hong", "Mot vong Viet Nam", "Hello Ho Chi Minh city".... Combined with the fireworks of the Ministry of National Defense fired according to a special scheme, colored smoke creates visual effects and the LED system artistically illuminates the water stage with the shimmering illuminated sailing sails... All aim to create a splendid space, both expressing modernity and imbued with cultural identity and national spirit".

Hard training days
To prepare for a colorful night, the organizers and performers had to go through many days of hard preparation. This is an unprecedented water performance event at Bach Dang Wharf. The Water Sports Center had to coordinate with many units - from federations and water sports clubs across the country to logistics, rescue, waterway security departments and even technical units for sound, lighting, fireworks, etc.
Safety is a top priority - from the safety of athletes, vehicles to spectators along the river. Coordinating the schedules and movements of dozens of high-speed vehicles and athletes in the same narrow space on the river requires meticulous calculation, thorough training and seamless communication via walkie-talkie.

Stepping stone for water sports
Besides the promise of an impressive performance night, Mr. Hoang Duc Tan as well as all participating athletes hope that through this event, they will create a breakthrough for water sports in Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Tan shared: "This is something that I and the entire community of water sports people in the city are always concerned about. Ho Chi Minh City has a great geographical advantage with a dense system of rivers and canals - a great natural condition for the development of many water sports such as swimming, rowing (canoe, kayak, rowing), sailing, jet skiing, jet skiing...
The potential is huge, not only for high-performance sports but also for recreational sports, tourism, developing the riverside night economy and improving the quality of life for people. But the reality is that we still seriously lack specialized infrastructure for water sports. We do not have legal, safe and convenient places to practice, anchor, and get on and off vehicles.
According to Mr. Tan, clubs and individuals who want to operate on the river often face legal difficulties, have to apply for permission and find suitable locations. This greatly hinders regular training, movement development, attracting participants and effectively exploiting the city's available potential.
"Through this major event, when the Saigon River lights up with water sports activities, we hope that the city's leaders and departments will see this potential more clearly and pay more attention and invest properly in water sports.
Our biggest wish is to have clear plans and policies to form specialized wharf areas for water sports along suitable rivers," Mr. Tan added.
Show program
The performance night on April 29 and 30 is scheduled to start at 7:28 p.m. with an opening act of windsurfing and raising the national flag. This will be followed by a parade of athletes including 8-10 canoes and 25-30 jet skis.
From 7:35 p.m. to 8 p.m. there will be promising performances, including jet skiing, flyboarding, rowing, fireworks (by the Ministry of Defense), jet skis...
To make it easier for people in the city and the whole country to arrange their time to watch the program, the two shows (April 29 and 30) have quite similar content.
