On March 17, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board coordinated with Vietnam Maritime University to organize the workshop "Southern Economic Zone - New driving force for Hai Phong's development".

Mr. Ko Tae Yeon, Chairman of KOCHAM Hai Phong, discussed the development of the Southern coastal economic zone from the perspective of FDI enterprises.

At the workshop, Head of Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board Le Trung Kien said that the establishment of the Southern Hai Phong Economic Zone is very necessary in the process of restructuring the economy of Hai Phong and the whole country. This is demonstrated through the formation and development of Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone.

This economic zone was established in 2008 with a total area of 22,540 hectares and currently has 9 industrial parks. The synchronous development of seaport infrastructure, transportation, services, urban areas, and social housing has made Dinh Vu - Cat Hai the most successful coastal economic zone in the country. This economic zone has many projects in the fields of high technology, processing, and manufacturing of leading domestic and international corporations with a total investment capital of enterprises reaching 32 billion USD.

The development of Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone contributes to the restructuring of the industry, promoting industrialization and modernization, bringing Hai Phong and Vietnam deeper into the global value chain. However, currently, the land fund in Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone is not much left, the occupancy rate has reached 80%, the clearance of the remaining areas is facing many difficulties due to the dense population, lack of resettlement land fund... therefore, there is not much room left in this Economic Zone.

Mr. Le Trung Kien affirmed: The establishment of the Southern Hai Phong Economic Zone is the basis to catch the wave of investment capital shifting, welcome investors in the fields of high technology, semiconductors as well as develop industrial zones in a green and circular direction. The establishment of the Southern Hai Phong Economic Zone also maximizes the advantages and potential of the Port City such as: connecting with neighboring economic zones, forming a chain of coastal economic zones, effectively exploiting the development orientation of the coastal highway, Nam Do Son Port, Tien Lang Airport, making good use of the land area of Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone.

During the workshop, delegates all agreed that the establishment of the Hai Phong Southern Economic Zone is extremely necessary. Mr. Bruno Jaspaert, General Director of Deep C Industrial Park Complex, said that the establishment of the Hai Phong Southern Economic Zone helps Hai Phong to make the most of its potential and advantages to develop its economy in a green and sustainable direction.

Mr. Ko Tae Yeon, Chairman of KOCHAM Hai Phong also affirmed that the establishment of the South Hai Phong Economic Zone continues to promise to be an attractive destination for Korean investors. According to Mr. Ko Tae Yeon, there are currently 106 projects of Korean investors investing in Hai Phong with a total investment capital of more than 10 billion USD. Korean enterprises are interested in investing in Hai Phong and Vietnam due to the stable political environment, the Government and the city's attention and incentives for FDI enterprises. Hai Phong has a favorable location, developed transport infrastructure to serve FDI enterprises in import and export.

According to the Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board, this economic zone has an area of 20,000 hectares, along the coastal highway. This economic zone has many advantages in terms of geographical location, traffic, infrastructure and development space. Industrial parks located in this economic zone include Tien Lang 1, Tien Lang 2, Tan Trao, Ngu Phuc, Tien Lang airport, Tran Duong. The roadmap for building the Southern Hai Phong Economic Zone starts from 2024. Accordingly, the economic zone will be established in 2024-2025. From 2026 to 2030, relevant agencies will prepare and submit for approval the general planning for the construction of the economic zone, invest in infrastructure construction, invest in the construction of functional areas and will attract secondary projects.
