Within the framework of the Project “Supporting disadvantaged elderly people through the replication of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs in Vietnam - Phase 2” (VIE085), on November 17, at the Cultural House of Vo Hoi village, Thanh Mien commune ( Hai Phong ), a program of visiting, working and introducing the Intergenerational Self-Help Club model took place. The program was attended by representatives of local authorities and relevant departments, branches and units.
The Vo Hoi Village Intergenerational Self-Help Club was established in May 2025, with a total of 51 members. By joining the club, members have their health monitored monthly and have regular health check-ups. Up to now, the club has established teams for health care, volleyball, cycling, walking, performing arts, home health care; income-generating groups and economic development volunteers...
Through the experience at the Intergenerational Self-Help Club in Vo Hoi village, delegates clearly noted the positive changes in the material and spiritual life of the members. The club operates effectively, autonomously, transparently, and creates trust from the community. This is an important foundation for the model to continue to be replicated sustainably.
Project VIE085 is funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through HelpAge Korea (HAK), implemented by HelpAge International in Vietnam (HAI) in collaboration with the Association of the Elderly in 6 provinces and cities. With the goal of improving the quality of life for disadvantaged elderly people, the project focuses on increasing income, strengthening health, enhancing social participation and promoting self-management in the community.
Up to now, in Hai Phong city, 311 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs have been established, of which from 2023 to November 2025, HAI has supported the establishment of 29 clubs in phase 2 of Project VIE085.
The activities of the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs have been maintained and achieved positive results, becoming an important support for disadvantaged elderly people. Through training, technical support and resources from the project, many clubs have strengthened their self-management capacity, operated effectively and gradually expanded their scale of service to the community.
The project also emphasizes the role of the Elderly Association in leading, managing and developing the model in a sustainable direction, suitable to local conditions.
