On April 25, the Department of Investigation Police on Economic Crimes, Corruption, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes of Dong Thap Province Police said that it had just coordinated with the Dong Thap Inspection and Testing Center to inspect and discover that the facility owned by Thai Thi Thu Nguyet (born in 1965, residing in Sa Dec city) was producing bean sprouts using chemicals of unknown origin.
At the scene, authorities discovered about 40kg of bean sprouts being incubated in earthenware jars, and confiscated about 300 grams of white powder used to bleach bean sprouts and collected samples of finished bean sprouts.

During the initial investigation, Nguyet admitted that the white powder was bleach. On average, 1kg of mung beans produced by this facility produced 6kg of bean sprouts. The owner then used bleach to whiten the bean sprouts and then sold them on the market.
Nguyet has been producing bean sprouts for about 10 years now, producing 50kg of finished bean sprouts per day. During its operation, this facility did not have a business registration license, did not have food safety procedures, and its workers did not have regular health check-ups.
The authorities have drawn up a record of the current situation and collected samples of finished products, and at the same time requested the facility to immediately stop operations until the test results from the authorities are available.
