The diving instructor is believed to be a member of the group responsible for the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion.

German investigators believe the Ukrainian man, believed to be living in Poland, was one of the divers who planted an explosive device on the pipeline running from Russia to Berlin under the Baltic Sea in September 2022, SZ and Die Zeit newspapers and ARD television reported, citing anonymous sources.

Berlin has asked Warsaw to arrest the man by June 2024, reports say.

The Polish and German National Prosecutors' Offices have not yet commented on the matter.

On August 14, Spiegel news magazine cited security sources as saying that the suspect was believed to have left Poland.
