(To Quoc) - Thanks to the application of information technology and digital transformation in libraries, hundreds of thousands of pages of Han Nom documents in Thua Thien Hue province have been digitized to preserve and promote their long-term value.

The Thua Thien Hue Provincial General Library reports that, in recent times, the unit has continuously applied information technology to the digital transformation of the library. This has contributed to improving the efficiency of library operations and better serving the needs of readers. One of the outstanding results is the digitization of a large volume of Han Nom documents in the area to preserve and promote their long-term value.

Specifically, from 2009 to the present, the Thua Thien Hue Provincial General Library, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City General Science Library, has implemented a program to collect and digitize Sino-Vietnamese documents in Thua Thien Hue province. Through field surveys, research groups have digitized nearly 500,000 pages of Sino-Vietnamese documents from 199 villages, 967 clans, and 19 mansions and private residences, including: royal decrees, family genealogies, funeral orations, diplomas, land registers, administrative documents, village regulations, worship texts, and other types of documents.

Staff of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial General Library are carrying out the digitization of Han Nom (Sino-Vietnamese) documentary heritage in the area.

The collected documents are all original texts, quite complete and diverse in types of Sino-Vietnamese documents in Thua Thien Hue. The texts are presented on various materials with rich content and value in many fields such as textual studies, history and culture, ideology, and customs. The research, investigation, survey, and collection, combined with the digitization of Sino-Vietnamese documents over the past period, has helped many people gain a deeper understanding of the Thua Thien Hue region and contributed to the study of Vietnam during the medieval period.

As a result of the collection and digitization of this Sino-Vietnamese documentary heritage, by 2024, five publications had been compiled, translated, and printed: "Bibliography of Imperial Decrees of the Nguyen Dynasty in Thua Thien Hue" (2018); "Imperial Decrees, Appointments, and Royal Edicts of the Nguyen Dynasty in Thua Thien Hue Province" (2020); "Certificates of Officials of the Nguyen Dynasty in Thua Thien Hue Province" (2021); "Sino-Vietnamese Documents and Petitions of Villages in Thua Thien Hue Province" (2022); and "Village Regulations in Thua Thien Hue Province" (2023). These research works, upon their release, have been highly praised by scientists and readers for their academic merit and content quality.

In addition, the Thua Thien Hue Provincial General Library also organized an exhibition combined with the distribution of CDs containing digitized Han Nom documents. Through these activities, it has contributed to raising public awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting the value of Han Nom documents in the area.
