With a price of 73-76 thousand VND/kg, the price of live pigs in the Southern region is the highest in the country, about 10 thousand VND/kg higher than the locality with the lowest price in the Northern region. Specifically, the price of live pigs in the Northern region ranges from 66-68 thousand VND/kg; the Central and Central Highlands regions range from 67-74 thousand VND/kg.
At this price, farms with good productivity and no damage from disease can earn a profit of 1.1-1.5 million VND/head. This is a good profit, and farmers can confidently invest.
However, according to the Dong Nai Livestock Association, the current epidemic situation in livestock farming is still complicated, especially the risk of African swine fever causing harm to the pig herd is still high. The decrease in supply is the main reason why the price of live pigs has been stable at a high level for many months. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, the total herd of pigs in the province reached 1.92 million, down 8% compared to the same period last year.
Although the price of live pigs fluctuated slightly, the price of pork sold at Hoc Mon wholesale market ( Ho Chi Minh City) remained almost unchanged compared to a few days ago. On May 28, the total amount of pigs supplied to slaughterhouses for consumption in the large market of Ho Chi Minh City was about 5.2 thousand pigs, but due to slow purchasing power, only about 4.8 thousand pigs were slaughtered and supplied to Hoc Mon wholesale market.
The price of pork pieces sold at wholesale markets has remained almost unchanged compared to a few days ago. The price of beautiful pork pieces sold by portion ranges from 94-96 thousand VND/kg, and the price of large pigs ranges from 81-83 thousand VND/kg.
