Mr. Ho Nguyen Si, Chairman and Director of Binh Dinh Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited - informed: The company is managing and operating 1,442 km of canals, of which about 440 km of earthen canals have not been solidified.
Over the years, Binh Dinh Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited has always maintained the work of regular maintenance, repair, dredging, and clearing to ensure the stable and clear operation of the canal system. However, due to the large proportion of earthen canals, management and operation still face many difficulties. Canal banks are often eroded and landslides due to the impact of water flow and floods, while water hyacinth and grass grow rapidly, clinging deep into the canal bed, causing blockage of the flow and affecting flood drainage.
To ensure effective drainage during this year's flood season, the Company has mobilized 4 excavators and workers to dredge and clear 33 canals with a total length of 106 km, with a total cost of 872 million VND. To date, the construction progress has reached about 70% of the workload.

Tuy Phuoc Dong Commune is located in the lower reaches of the Kon River, an area with a dense canal system, both serving agricultural production and being a gateway to drain water to Thi Nai Lagoon. However, due to the sedimentation process, many canal sections are blocked, causing local flooding during heavy rains. Currently, Binh Dinh Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited is managing 64 km of canals, including 19 km of solid canals and 45 km of earthen canals. At this time, the company is focusing on dredging 2 main canals, of which the 6,330 m long Van Kham canal has been completed, dredging and clearing, ensuring smooth flow, contributing to rapid drainage during floods and providing irrigation water for the upcoming Winter-Spring crop.
Mr. Ton Ky Hai, Vice Chairman of Tuy Phuoc Dong Commune People's Committee, said: "Dredging the flow of canals is very important in reducing flooding, helping water drain quickly into the lagoon, limiting damage when floods occur. At the same time, this is also an important preparation step for the upcoming winter-spring crop."
Along with coordinating dredging and clearing the irrigation canal system, Tuy Phuoc Dong commune authorities are also proactively developing a plan to respond to storms and floods according to the "4 on-site" motto (on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means, on-site logistics), ensuring safety for people and production.

Mr. Ho Nguyen Si added: "In the coming time, the Company will continue to dredging 85 canals with a total length of about 220 km across the province, to ensure the canal system is clear, operates stably, contributes to drainage and best serves the production of the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop".
