Durian price today May 7: Durian price decreased...

On May 7, 2025, the domestic durian market continued to be under great pressure in terms of price and consumption. The price of Ri6 durian at the garden in the Mekong Delta dropped sharply to 25,000 VND/kg but traders did not buy it.

According to records in the Mekong Delta region, the price of Ri6 durian in the garden is only 25,000 VND/kg, but traders hardly buy it.

Faced with this situation, many gardeners in Phong Dien ( Can Tho City), Chau Thanh A (Hau Giang) are forced to directly sell durian along National Highway 61C, the route connecting Can Tho - Vi Thanh. The retail price on the roadside is higher than in the garden, ranging from 30,000 - 60,000 VND/kg depending on the type, but still not enough to cover the costs for growers.

Meanwhile, a survey from Chogia.vn shows that in the Western, Southeastern and Central Highlands regions, the prices of selected Ri6 durian and Thai durian remain high, but this is almost only applied to selected, export-quality products.

Ri6 Beautiful Choice: 140,000 - 144,000 (stable)

Ri6 Soviet: 60,000 – 70,000 (unchanged)

Beautiful Thai Durian: 177,000 - 180,000 (highest)

Thai durian bought in bulk: 65,000 - 80,000

The phenomenon of durian "on the roadside" is also spreading to many localities such as Vinh Long, Can Tho, Hau Giang , showing slow consumption and difficulties in traditional distribution channels.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hau Giang province, commented: "The durian market is facing many challenges in terms of product quality, unstable prices and especially weak consumption."

This unchanged situation reflects the strong price differentiation between selected goods and mass-produced goods, especially in the context of slowing exports.

According to the authorities, one of the main reasons for the sharp price drop is the rapid increase in supply while some markets tighten quality control, especially China with requirements on heavy metal residues such as cadmium and standards on O gold.

To cope, farmers are advised to focus on improving durian quality, cultivating according to food safety standards and international regulations to access demanding markets.

In addition, businesses need to invest in deep processing to increase product value and reduce dependence on fresh exports. Cooperatives should link with businesses to create a closed supply chain to help stabilize prices and increase consumption capacity.

It is forecasted that if there is no early solution, the domestic durian market will continue to face a situation of oversupply, while growers will have to "save themselves" by using small retail channels on the roadside or localizing products.
