World market

Iron ore and steel prices moved in opposite directions as investors remained cautious amid mixed signals from China and international trade tensions.

On the Shanghai Stock Exchange, rebar for December 2025 delivery fell to 3,119 yuan per tonne, or nearly 1 per cent. Hot-rolled coil and stainless steel also fell 1.2 per cent and 0.16 per cent, respectively. In contrast, iron ore futures in Singapore edged up slightly to $96.55 per tonne in the morning session on May 3.

Steel prices today are stable domestically, fluctuating between 13,380-14,200 VND/kg; internationally, steel prices have dropped sharply, iron ore prices have remained stable due to China's delay in stimulus.

Iron ore prices remained under pressure from high inventories, while China’s output of the hot metal, a gauge of crude demand, continued to rise sharply. Although Beijing announced a stimulus plan, delays in its implementation disappointed the market. Chinese real estate stocks fell more than 3%.

On the supply side, Fortescue (Australia) reported an increase in shipping volume in the third quarter. At the same time, China and Japan are promoting trade dialogue with the US, but the prospect of reaching an agreement remains unclear, keeping market sentiment cautious.

Northern region

Viet Duc Steel: CB240 rolled steel is priced at VND13,500/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel is priced at VND13,800/kg.

Hoa Phat Steel: CB240 coil steel at 13,550 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel at 13,600 VND/kg.

Viet Sing Steel: CB240 coil steel price 13,450 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel price 13,650 VND/kg.

Central region

Viet Duc Steel: CB240 rolled steel costs 13,800 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel is 14,200 VND/kg.

Hoa Phat Steel: CB240 coil steel at 13,650 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel at 13,750 VND/kg.

Southern region

Hoa Phat Steel: CB240 rolled steel at 13,550 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel remains at 13,650 VND/kg.

VAS Steel: CB240 coil steel price is 13,380 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar is 13,480 VND/kg.
