Solving the "output problem" for grassroots Youth Union cadres

Cadres of the Youth Union at the commune, ward and town level are considered the “drivers” who decide the quality of Youth Union activities in residential areas. However, when they reach the age limit and have to move to other jobs, this team faces many difficulties.

With the passion for the movement, enthusiasm, the spirit of shock, volunteerism and creativity of the youth, the team of Youth Union cadres at the grassroots level has been actively contributing to the work of the Youth Union and the youth movement, contributing to affirming the spirit of "Wherever there is a need, there is youth, wherever there is difficulty, there is youth".

It is noteworthy that the Youth Union staff all devote their youth to the work of the Youth Union and the youth movement, contributing to the growth of the Youth Union organization.

Dedicate all youth to the Union

Just because of her love for the green shirt of Vietnamese youth, Ms. Huynh Kim Phuong, Secretary of the Youth Union of Long Duc commune (Long Thanh district) vowed to devote her entire youth to the Union.

This year, 32 years old, Ms. Phuong has been involved in the local Youth Union for 16 years. Ms. Phuong said that since joining the Youth Union, she has actively participated in Youth Union activities at school, in the residential area and is a member of the Youth Volunteer Team of the commune and district. About 1 year after graduating from high school, she was elected Secretary of the Youth Union of Zone 13, Long Duc commune; then Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the commune and Secretary of the Youth Union of Long Duc commune.

According to Ms. Phuong, from being the Secretary of the Youth Union of the area to the Secretary of the Youth Union of the commune, she spent more time on the Youth Union, having to leave early and come home late, and on weekends, she attended meetings with the Youth Unions of the area, organizing activities for the youth in the commune. Besides, she also spent time participating in the Youth Union activities organized by other units and higher-level Youth Union organizations to learn more experiences. From there, she proposed suitable models and activities for the youth in the commune.

The province currently has 27 district, city and affiliated Youth Union units with 555 Youth Union bases (including 383 grassroots Youth Unions and 172 grassroots Youth Union branches), over 5,200 branches directly under the grassroots Youth Union and nearly 1,300 Youth Union cadres at all levels. Despite operating in conditions of many shortages, the Youth Union cadres, especially the grassroots Youth Union, are always dedicated and closely attached to the Youth Union organization and the Youth Union.

After 13 years of working with the Youth Union and youth movement, the passion for the movement of Mr. Nguyen Viet Tuong, Secretary of the Youth Union of Long Tho commune (Nhon Trach district) is still intact as in the early days of his relationship with the Union.

Mr. Tuong shared that he came to the Union when he was facing many difficulties. At the end of 2010, he completed his military service and returned to his hometown. The day he received the decision to discharge from the army was the day his father passed away from a terrible cancer. He is the only son in the family, so after his father passed away, his relatives all wanted him to take over the bakery that his father had worked so hard to build. His passion for the movement is in his blood, so in addition to working at the bakery, Mr. Tuong also participated in activities organized by the commune's Youth Union.

Recognizing his enthusiasm, at the Congress of the Youth Union of Hamlet 1, Long Tho Commune, he was elected by the Youth Union members as Secretary of the Youth Union of Hamlet. The Youth Union of Hamlet had no funds, so to maintain its activities, Mr. Tuong often had to spend his own money. After a while, he was elected to the Executive Committee of the Youth Union of the Commune to support the work of the Youth Union of the Commune. Around the end of 2016 and the beginning of 2017, he was elected as Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Long Tho Commune. Since he became involved in the Youth Union activities, his family's bakery also stopped operating. To ensure his livelihood and continue to be attached to the Youth Union, on weekends when there were no activities, he went to work serving parties with the Youth Union members.

“Seeing that I was always traveling but my income was not worth much, my relatives advised me to stop, find another job with a higher income, and stabilize my life soon. However, my passion for the movement made it impossible for me to give up,” Tuong confided.

It was that passion that helped him overcome all difficulties and successfully complete all assigned tasks. In mid-2020, he was elected Secretary of the Long Tho Commune Youth Union. At this time, the Covid-19 epidemic appeared and broke out strongly, he volunteered to go to the epidemic center to participate in supporting the local epidemic prevention and control work.

Many good and creative ways

With youthfulness, enthusiasm, pioneering spirit, volunteerism, creativity, etc., grassroots Youth Union cadres have become the authors of many good, creative ways of doing things that attract young union members.

From the Project officer of the Youth Leadership and Management Project of Bien Hoa City Youth Union, in 2020, Ms. Bui Thi Khanh Linh transferred to work at Trung Dung Ward (Bien Hoa City) as Secretary of the Youth Union of Trung Dung Ward. As a youth leader, Ms. Khanh Linh has had many models and activities that left their mark. In particular, she has mobilized the establishment of a series of hobby club models such as: Skills Club, English Club, Youth Club for Environmental Protection, Guitar Club, 3D Paper Model Club... both creating a playground for young people and attracting young people to the Youth Union organization.

In addition, she is also the author of the model of Exchanging recycled waste for food, which is carried out on the first Sunday of the month. Periodically on the first Sunday of the month, Ms. Khanh Linh and the core Youth Union members in the ward maintain the program of Loving Meals - giving food to people in difficult circumstances in Bien Hoa City.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, she formed a team to go to the market on behalf of disadvantaged families in the lockdown area; implemented the Zero-VND Market program - going door to door to give gifts and necessities to disadvantaged families in the lockdown area, and families quarantined due to close contact with Covid-19 cases.

Life is difficult, so this year, at nearly 70 years old, Ms. Chu Thi Cuc (in KP.3, Trung Dung Ward, Bien Hoa City) still sells lottery tickets. Ms. Cuc said that her husband is in poor health; of her 3 children, 1 is disabled, the other 2 work and earn just enough to live on. On the first Sunday of the month, she sells lottery tickets near the ward's Youth Union and then stops by to pick up food. Seeing her family's difficult circumstances, instead of giving her a portion, Ms. Khanh Linh gives each member of her family a portion of food in the hope of sharing some of her worries.

As a locality with a large number of young workers who often work in shifts, Secretary of the Long Duc Commune Youth Union Huynh Kim Phuong has flexibly organized Union activities suitable for young workers. In particular, she has organized activities in the evenings and on weekends; at the same time, orienting the Youth Union members to practical activities for the community.

Specifically, she organized the Youth Union to stand guard at checkpoints to ensure traffic safety on Sundays; to clean the environment, remove trash billboards, and plant trees on Saturdays and Sundays. Ms. Phuong also mobilized the Youth Union members of the Long Duc Commune People's Committee to maintain the model of Volunteer Saturday to handle administrative procedures for the people...

In order to promote the spirit of volunteerism of the Youth Union, Secretary of the Youth Union of Long Tho commune Nguyen Viet Tuong mobilized the Youth Union to participate in maintaining the rural traffic routes to be bright - green - clean - beautiful. The Youth Union also implemented self-managed routes for security and order, ensuring traffic safety, helping people feel secure when traveling on the routes.

By gathering information from the Youth Union and Association of the boarding houses, Mr. Tuong promptly reported to the Commune Police to handle when he discovered suspicious subjects; coordinated with the police force to propagate for people to raise their vigilance, not to be taken advantage of by criminals, incited to cause trouble... to ensure security and order in the area, especially in boarding houses. From there, he contributed to building a beautiful image of the green shirt of Vietnamese Youth in the hearts of the people.
