Hanoi: Striving to save at least 2.2% of total electricity consumption in the city

On the morning of May 27, the Department of Industry and Trade and Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) launched the summer peak campaign on energy saving and efficiency in 2025.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, in 2024, the total energy saved in the city will reach 148.4 kTOE, equivalent to 1.67% of energy consumption. Of which, the amount of electricity saved is 537.39 million kWh, equivalent to 2.3% of commercial electricity.

The total installed rooftop solar power capacity is 102,928MWp. Hanoi has also stably operated 2 waste-to-energy plants with a total capacity of 60MW; invested in the Seraphin waste-to-energy plant; signed an agreement to participate in the non-commercial electricity load adjustment program with 3,387 large-scale production customers, with a total registered reduction capacity of 212.9MW.

By 2025, Hanoi city aims to achieve energy savings of 1.6% - 1.8% compared to forecast demand, in which electricity savings are at least 2.2% of total electricity consumption.

Developing renewable energy to increase about 67MW from waste-to-energy, bringing the total energy source from waste treatment in Hanoi to about 129.3MW; striving to increase about 30MW of rooftop solar power.

At the launching ceremony, the leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade called on businesses, organizations, individuals, people, and agencies of the city to join hands to save electricity, use energy effectively, proactively have adaptive action plans during peak periods, contributing to ensuring sufficient and stable electricity supply in the capital.

Over the past time, Hanoi city has always been active and coordinated with the Ministry to effectively implement the National Program on economical and efficient use of energy, with practical and meaningful activities. The Ministry of Industry and Trade assessed that Hanoi city is the leading locality in the country in implementing the program.
