On August 28th, the Ministry of Education and Training announced several new points expected in the draft circular on the regulations for the high school graduation exam starting from 2025.
The plan is to include computer science and technology in the high school graduation exam.
According to the Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Training, the high school graduation exam is expected to be shortened from four sessions as it is currently to three sessions starting in 2025.
Regarding the subjects and exam papers as announced in the high school graduation exam plan from 2025, specifically, the addition of informatics and technology (industrial and agricultural ) subjects, these are subjects being included in the exam for the first time.
Adding several new question formats to multiple-choice exams (previously there was only one multiple-choice question format).
At the same time, the differentiation of exam questions in all subjects will be enhanced to achieve the objectives of the exam as announced in the exam plan.
Furthermore, it is expected that from 2025 onwards, the high school graduation exam will increasingly utilize information technology and undergo a stronger digital transformation in its organization.
Specifically, all candidates can register online, verify their personal information, and receive priority points through a digital database. Previously, independent candidates had to submit their applications in person.
The transmission of (digitized) exam papers now includes a new method: through the Government Cipher Committee's system, ensuring speed, security, and cost savings.
Regarding the organization of examination sites and examination rooms, the high school graduation exam from 2025 onwards is expected to be arranged according to the principle of providing maximum support to candidates so they do not have to move to different examination rooms:
Students from nearby educational institutions are allowed to be mixed together to create convenient examination locations for candidates. Candidates will only take the exam in one examination room throughout the entire examination period. Priority will be given to arranging for candidates to take the same exam in two elective subjects.
High school graduation is assessed using the academic results from all three years.
Regarding the recognition of high school graduation, from 2025 onwards, it is expected that the percentage of using the results of learning process assessments in grades 10, 11, and 12 will increase to 50% (previously it was 30% and only the results of grade 12 were used).
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, this aims to comprehensively assess the competencies of students studying under the 2018 General Education Program and increase the effectiveness of achieving the many objectives of the exam as announced.
Candidates with foreign language certificates that meet the regulations will be exempt from the foreign language exam, but this will not be counted towards the 10-point graduation assessment as is currently the case.
Also starting in 2025, regulations are expected to be added to pilot computer-based testing when conditions are met, following the roadmap announced in the testing plan, with gradual piloting starting in 2027 and widespread implementation after 2030 when conditions are met.
