Many people assume that artists are usually financially well-off, so they spend money easily. However, two Meritorious Artists have frankly stated that they would not lend money to others for fear of "losing both money and friendship."
Xuan Hinh: Even if there is anger or resentment, I will not lend money.
In a video clip recording a conversation with People's Artist Hong Van, Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh revealed that he has a "vow" not to lend money to anyone.
Specifically, when People's Artist Hong Van jokingly asked to borrow money, Xuan Hinh frankly refused. The "King of Northern Comedy" humorously said: "I've sworn that I wouldn't lend money to anyone in my family because most family members just 'rekindle the romance' and then don't pay it back. If I don't lend to family, then I wouldn't lend to you, an outsider. If I lend to you, people will think there's something inappropriate between us."
Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh has a principle of not lending money to anyone.
Later, in a video chat with Quang Thắng and Hồng Vân, Xuân Hinh reiterated that he would not lend money to anyone.
The male artist said: "Borrowing money for gambling, drinking, and nonstop partying is absolutely out of the question. Maybe for buying a house. If you're short 1 billion dong for a house worth several billion dong, I'll lend you the money. But if you borrow money, give me the land title deed. I hold the deed, and even then I have to check if it's being held somewhere else. Otherwise, after lending the money, I'll have to spend it myself. I'm not dating any woman at the bank who has that much money!"
The "King of Northern Comedy" asserted that he wouldn't easily lend money to others because it's easy to lose both money and friendship: "My money is hard-earned, I'm telling you the truth. Even if you're angry with me or hold a grudge against me, I won't borrow anything. If I lend you money, you might just turn to someone else when you see me again."
Xuan Hinh doesn't want to lend money to others because he's afraid that "after borrowing, they might turn to a different path when they meet me."
Chi Trung once lost 100 gold bars completely.
It's not just Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh; Meritorious Artist Chi Trung also has a "vow" not to lend money to others. Sharing on Tri Thuc Tre, the male artist said that in 1998, he lent 518 million VND to his sworn sister and her husband.
In reality, Chi Trung only had 315 million VND, but his sister and her husband said they wanted to borrow money for business, and were willing to pay high interest rates. So the male artist borrowed from relatives to get 518 million VND, equivalent to 100 gold bars, and gave it to his sister.
"518 million dong sounds small now, but back then it was equivalent to 100 gold bars, enough to buy two houses on the main streets of Hue today. Sadly, however, they were only moderately capable and not very wealthy, so they went bankrupt with debts of up to 32 billion dong and immediately fled in the night."
"I found out about it while I was performing in Hai Phong . You know, when I heard the shocking news, my whole body went cold, I felt numb, as if all the blood vessels in my brain had suddenly snapped," Chi Trung shared.
Meritorious Artist Chí Trung.
Once he calmed down, Chi Trung consoled himself, telling himself he could overlook the incident and work hard to repay the more than 200 million dong debt he had borrowed earlier.
From this shock, the male artist made a vow: "After that fateful loss of money, I made a promise: I will never lend money to anyone, except for close relatives. If a friend I haven't seen in 15 years suddenly comes to me scratching their head and asking for money, they must be addicted, and I'll just give it to them instead of lending."
As for casual acquaintances who come to borrow money, I refuse. Lending money can sometimes cost you a friendship. The vow of pledging money might sound stingy, but the truth is I don't want to entrust my trust to them anymore. When you don't entrust your trust, you won't have to suffer or feel guilty."
