On February 16, An Duong district, Hai Phong city held the opening ceremony of the Traditional Wrestling Festival of Vinh Khe village, An Dong commune in 2024 - National intangible cultural heritage.

The Traditional Wrestling Festival of Vinh Khe village was formed during the Tran Dynasty in the 14th century, converging the crystallization of the martial arts training of soldiers to save the country by the two village guardian spirits. It is now nearly 700 years old.

The annual wrestling festival is held for the first three days of spring on the birthdays of the two tutelary gods, with the main festival day being the 7th of January. The festival has been deeply ingrained in the people's subconscious, maintained as a tradition, and passed down through many generations.

During the Mac Dynasty in the 15th century, Mr. Pham Tu Nghi came to Vinh Khe village to participate in a talent competition festival and won a high prize, earning the admiration of everyone. At that time, Vinh Khe was a river area, on the wharf, under the boat, so after becoming a saint, Mr. Pham Tu Nghi was worshiped by the villagers as the village's tutelary god.

With its unique cultural features, in 2017, Vinh Khe village wrestling festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In the Spring of Giap Thin - 2024, the Vinh Khe Traditional Wrestling Festival attracted 10 teams, with nearly 150 athletes from clubs and sports centers in provinces and cities: Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh and districts in Hai Phong city.

The unique feature of the Vinh Khe Traditional Wrestling Festival is the competition rules according to village rules. The wrestlers participating in the competition will compete with each other without regard to time, age or weight class.

The wrestlers compete in 3 rounds, each round lasting 3 minutes. If there is no winner after all 3 rounds, the wrestlers will go into overtime.

In this overtime, any wrestler who can pin his opponent to the mat with both shoulders and one butt or both butts and one shoulder touching the mat within 3 seconds is considered an absolute winner. This rule makes many professional wrestlers struggle to win.
