On October 15, Poland entered a general election that could decide the country's political future amid a crisis on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The Polish army today, October 10, confirmed the sudden departure of two Polish commanders, General Rajmund Andrzejczak, Chief of the General Staff, and General Tomasz Piotrowski, Commander of the Polish army's operations. The two generals submitted their resignations while the general election is about to take place in less than a week, according to The Guardian .

The news shocked the PiS party, which campaigned on the claim that it was the patriotic force capable of defending Poland against external opponents, and the only party that could guarantee the Eastern European country's security.

PiS is aiming for a third consecutive term. However, the party faces a challenge from the opposition led by former prime minister and current European Council President Donald Tusk.

Polls warn this will be a tough election, with the two sides roughly evenly matched.

"It was a symbolic decision. They wanted to resign before the election to show that they had no faith in the current political class," Onet.pl quoted former Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz as saying.

The Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper reported that the last straw that led to the departure of the two generals came when Interior Minister Błaszczak assigned another commander, General Wiesław Kukuła, to be responsible for evacuating Polish citizens from Israel.

Tensions between the Polish military leadership and the Ministry of Defense have clearly been increasing in recent times, with the heads of the Ministry of Defense making decisions to "bypass" the intervention of the military leadership.

The Rzeczpospolita daily, which first reported the resignations of General Andrzejczak and General Piotrowskihai, also said the two generals objected to the military being drawn into the current government's re-election campaign.

These are not very positive signs for the ruling party before the Polish general election begins.
