On March 8th, more than 2,000 women from the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (TKV) flocked to the October 30th Square in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, to participate in activities at the Ao Dai Festival organized by the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Trade Union.

The program consists of two parts: Part 1, a mass performance of traditional Vietnamese ao dai dresses on the shores of the World Heritage site, Ha Long Bay, with the themes: Coal and Minerals - Aspiration for a New Era; Colors of Heritage; Vietnam - Our Beautiful Homeland.

Furthermore, this event aims to commemorate the 115th International Women's Day on March 8th and the 1985th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising, led by the two first female national heroes who repelled the northern invaders to regain national sovereignty . For the first time in history, the leader who raised the banner of rebellion and declared herself queen was a woman.

Speaking to Tien Phong newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, Vice President of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union, said that today more than 2,000 women are here representing nearly 20,000 female cadres, workers, and employees in the corporation.

The program aims to raise awareness and create a strong ripple effect among female union members and workers about the traditional cultural values and unique characteristics of the Vietnamese ao dai (traditional dress). Through this, it honors the beauty and value of the ao dai in social life, awakens pride and responsibility in female workers, and contributes to preserving, protecting, and promoting the traditional cultural values of Vietnamese national costume.

To honor the traditional Ao Dai dress and celebrate International Women's Day, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Union organized an Ao Dai costume contest for all female employees in the TKV Group.

Sixty female workers and employees from various units within the corporation, dressed in traditional Vietnamese ao dai, performed a catwalk walk right on the stage.

From traditional to modern styles, the ao dai (Vietnamese traditional dress) accentuates the beauty of Vietnamese women.

A large audience of colleagues and relatives came to cheer on the contestants.

The ao dai is one of the characteristic garments associated with the production and cultural life of Vietnamese people through many generations; it honors the gentle, graceful, and kind beauty of Vietnamese women.

Preserving and promoting the traditional ao dai dress also contributes to nurturing and building a Vietnamese culture rich in national identity, and promoting the image of Vietnam and its people.

According to the organizers, although this was the first time it was held, the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Corporation's Ao Dai Festival truly inspired female workers of the TKV Group and the people of Ha Long City through the image of the traditional Ao Dai.
The coastal road along the heritage site of Ha Long Bay is considered the most beautiful road in Vietnam and a source of pride for the people of Quang Ninh. The graceful ao dai dresses fluttering along the heritage site's shores symbolize the pride in the traditions of Vietnamese women in the modern era.

Organizing the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Workers' Ao Dai Festival on the 115th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8th) aims to affirm the tradition of "Discipline and Unity" of female workers in the mining region. This is the spiritual foundation for solidarity in building Quang Ninh province and Vietnam as it enters a new era.
