On June 6, Izvestia newspaper quoted a source from the Russian Ministry of Defense as saying that a new army corps including air force and air defense forces will be deployed in the West.

The new air force organizational structure will include several fighter regiments, a bomber regiment and an army aviation brigade.

However, it has not yet been decided which military district the joint force will be assigned to. It is possible that the Moscow Military District or the Leningrad Military District will be reorganized.

Former commander of the 4th Army of the Air Defense-Air Force Valery Gorbenko shared his opinion on the above plan with Izvestia : “Currently, the conflict is taking place in the West. In addition, Finland and Sweden joining NATO is also worth noting."

According to Mr. Gorbenko, in the past, the two Nordic countries were neutral, but now, "we need to have our respective forces in this direction. There will be NATO bases there, so, in response, we also need to deploy forces, including the air force. The deployment of the army corps is a correct decision."

The former Russian commander said that it should have been necessary to strengthen forces in the West last year, noting that the military agency had a lot of work to do to train new staff.

Currently part of the Western Military District is the 6th Red Banner Army of the Air Defense-Air Force, which includes a mixed aviation division, several helicopter regiments and an army aviation brigade.

In addition, this force also has two air defense divisions equipped with S-300 and S-400 systems. The 6th Army's area of ​​responsibility is one of the longest, covering Russian territory from Karelia to Voronezh.
