Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have confirmed that they are and will continue to introduce more solutions to tighten input and improve the quality of goods traded in the area, including supermarkets.
Input quality control is top priority
SATRA, the retail system chosen by many consumers in Ho Chi Minh City, has affirmed that it always puts input control as a top priority, with the goal of bringing customers safe and transparent products.
To concretize this policy, Mr. Vu Duong Quan - Head of SATRA retail system management - said that through strict compliance with legal regulations and strict application of internal control procedures, the unit has gradually eliminated the risk of counterfeit and poor quality goods right from the input stage - before the goods are put on shelves and reach consumers.
Specifically, all goods must undergo a strict quality control process before being stored and put on shelves. Only products with complete legal documents, quality certification and origin verification are allowed to circulate in the system.
Thus, the unit only cooperates with reputable suppliers with transparent and clear information about the origin of products. For high-risk product groups in the food industry such as fresh food (meat, eggs, vegetables and fruits), spices and processed products, SATRA conducts periodic quarterly testing to ensure safety for consumers.

According to records, supermarkets and modern retail stores have implemented the construction of a pre-inspection line to maintain quality. Usually, the steps include input assessment, quality control throughout the supply and retail process, and the establishment of an internal inspection and control system.
In particular, with the input assessment step alone, suppliers of goods will be assessed on their capacity and strict legal documents. Goods supplied by suppliers must have complete documents on quality standards and quality declaration documents according to the law.
The goods will then be tested for quality and food safety at testing laboratories, randomly selected at many stages.
A representative of a retail unit said that quality control throughout the supply and retail process is something the unit pays great attention to.
Because every stage, every operating process from the farm, production facility to the point of sale, from the point of sale to the consumer often goes through many stages, errors can completely occur at each stage.
"If we do not monitor closely and regularly, it will be difficult to prevent in time if the batch of goods released to the market does not ensure quality.
This case not only affects consumers' health, but also causes significant damage to the business brand," he assessed.
Supermarkets increase criteria, city has more control policies
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, an expert in the retail industry in Ho Chi Minh City, supplier screening is essential for retailers to obtain quality products and ensure food safety. Accordingly, screening is carried out based on many criteria from production processes, supply capacity, etc.
Affirming that it only prioritizes cooperation with reputable suppliers certified for quality and production processes, a SATRA representative said that partner selection is carried out through a transparent purchasing process, based on a detailed evaluation system according to 5 groups of criteria: finance, product quality, quality management, service and communication.

"In each criterion, the unit uses specific analytical weights and only decides to cooperate with suppliers with a score of 60% or higher. In addition, it also conducts periodic assessments of the capacity, compliance level and consumer feedback on the products of suppliers to ensure improvement in service quality," the SATRA representative emphasized.
From the management agency's perspective, the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade said that with the complicated situation of counterfeit and poor quality goods, it is very necessary for retail units to come up with additional solutions to tighten input quality to meet people's expectations, and also to protect the brand of the retail system.
On a larger scale, the city is and will introduce more solutions to tighten the control of input goods quality, especially in the retail system. Among the solutions currently applied, the city has implemented the program "Controlling the quality of goods in Ho Chi Minh City" (abbreviated as Responsible Green Tick) with the participation of 11 large retail systems, including the SATRA retail system... and many suppliers of vegetables, tubers, fruits, meat, eggs, milk... According to the plan, this program will be promoted to increase the scale and increase recognition with consumers.
"In the coming time, the industry and trade sector will increase inspection of the origin of goods, and calculate and coordinate with the Department of Food Safety to increase sampling of goods at supermarkets to check quality, from which there will be a basis to propose more reasonable solutions."
Fresh food groups will be inspected more frequently.
To prevent poor quality and counterfeit goods right from the input stage, SATRA has been applying a series of strict control principles. Specifically:
Only cooperate with reputable suppliers with transparent and clear product origin information. All suppliers must have full legal documents such as business registration, barcode certification, and valid quality certificates according to regulations. For high-risk product groups in the food industry such as fresh food (meat, eggs, vegetables and fruits), spices and processed products, SATRA conducts quarterly periodic testing to ensure consumer safety.
