During the resistance war against the US, Quang Tri - the heroic "land of fire" - witnessed countless sufferings, losses, and sacrifices, but it was also here that an immortal symbol of revolutionary heroism shone brightly.
The heroic 81-day and 81-night battle to defend Quang Tri Citadel (from June 28 to September 16, 1972 ) contributed to a historical turning point, laying the groundwork for our army and people to launch the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, leading to the Great Victory of Spring 1975, fulfilling the sacred wish of beloved President Ho Chi Minh for the reunification of North and South Vietnam.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, the National Political Publishing House has compiled and published the third edition of the book "Memories of Quang Tri - Memories of Those Involved," with the hope that readers will gain a deeper understanding of these precious historical memories.

On September 13th, in Hanoi, the National Political Publishing House, in collaboration with Omega Vietnam Book Joint Stock Company, organized a seminar and book launch event.
Attending the seminar were veterans who fought in the Quang Tri battlefield in 1972; representatives of the family of writer, poet, journalist, musician, and researcher Nguyen Thuy Kha - the collector and editor of the book; representatives of the leadership and editors of the publishing house's units, along with a large number of book lovers.
Speaking at the seminar, Deputy Director of the National Political Publishing House Nguyen Thai Binh shared: "Those who have once set foot in Quang Tri Ancient Citadel will surely experience a range of emotions, will see the value of peace, independence and freedom, and will never forget the surging and profound feelings in their hearts when passing through the ancient citadel gate, when standing by Hien Luong Bridge, by the Thach Han River..."

According to Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh, in recent days, along with the lingering impact of the film "Red Rain," many readers have eagerly wanted to read and own the book "Memories of Quang Tri - Memories of Those Involved," which is the motivation for the publishing house to continue publishing the book for the third time.
To help readers better understand the stories in the book, the publisher is organizing a program of interaction and dialogue with historical witnesses, including veteran and Liberation Army soldier Dao Chi Thanh - one of the two main characters, along with his comrades who directly fought at the Ancient Citadel.
Witnesses shared their journeys "From the lecture hall to the battlefield," memories of crossing the Thach Han River, hastily written diary entries amidst bombs and bullets, and the yearning to return to the lecture hall after the country achieved peace... Each story was moving, touching the emotions of those attending the program, conveying the message that "war has receded into the past, but memories need to be remembered so that no one has to suffer separation again."
The seminar and book launch of "Memories of Quang Tri - Memories of Those Involved" provided an opportunity for delegates, historical witnesses, and readers to reminisce about a time of war and fire, while simultaneously inspiring patriotism, a yearning for peace, and a sense of responsibility to safeguard the independence and freedom of the Fatherland in today's young generation.
