Hanoi FC Coach: 'Losing to Binh Dinh was an accident'

VnExpressVnExpress03/12/2023

Hanoi Coach Dinh The Nam regretted that Hanoi FC lost 0-1 to Binh Dinh due to a mistake, despite controlling the game well in round 4 of V-League 2023-2024.

Hanoi created more scoring opportunities in the match on the evening of December 3 at Hang Day Stadium, but Pham Xuan Manh's careless pass in the 61st minute led to the only goal. Hanoi tried to attack but were stuck in front of Binh Dinh's multi-layered defense.

"The loss affected the players' mentality. This loss was an accident," coach Dinh The Nam said at a press conference after the match, adding that playing three matches in 10 days made the players' physical strength and performance unstable.

The visiting team's coach Bui Doan Quang Huy also admitted that the victory had an element of luck. "This match is balanced," he said. "The luckier team will have the advantage."

In addition to the practical factors on the field, the current Hanoi squad depth is thinner than previous seasons. They have lost many quality players in the past three years such as Doan Van Hau, Nguyen Quang Hai, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Tran Van Kien, while veterans such as Van Quyet and Hung Dung are no longer in good physical condition, and Thanh Chung and Duy Manh have not yet reached their peak form. The gap left behind is large and other young players promoted have not been able to fill it.

According to coach Dinh The Nam, the club's leadership understands this problem, but Hanoi is not always strong and has full strength. "The team needs to have additions and at the same time hope that the young generation will gradually improve," said the 58-year-old coach.

This is Hanoi's second consecutive defeat, after a 0-2 defeat to Pohang Steelers, and also the seventh since the beginning of the season (three in the V-League and four in the AFC Champions League).

After four rounds, Hanoi has only three points and is ranked 10th, equal to SLNA but with a lower goal difference (-4 compared to -2). Binh Dinh with seven points has risen to sixth place. The top of the table belongs to Nam Dinh with 12 absolute points.

Hanoi will not have time to rest when they continue to play the final match of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League group stage, against Urawa Red Diamonds on December 6. Four days later, the team will face SLNA in round 5 of the V-League at Hang Day Stadium.

Despite being eliminated from the continental arena, coach Dinh The Nam affirmed that his team did not give up and wanted to play with the utmost dedication. However, the V-League front also needs careful calculation. "We can use the players with the best physical condition when playing against Urawa," said Mr. Nam. "Some young players will also be given opportunities."
