Coach Kim Sang-sik: U23 Vietnam will continue to improve their finishing ability

VHO - Speaking at a press conference after the 1-0 victory over U23 Singapore in the second match of Group C of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Qualifiers, head coach Kim Sang-sik hoped that his players would continue to improve their finishing ability in the final match against U23 Yemen.

In this match, U23 Vietnam with almost the strongest squad completely dominated the game, attacked a lot and created many delicious opportunities.

Coach Kim Sang-sik is not satisfied with the ability of U23 Vietnam to take advantage of opportunities.

However, the team only got the only goal from striker Van Thuan in the 79th minute. If they had taken better advantage of their opportunities, U23 Vietnam would have won with a higher score.

When asked about the fact that U23 Vietnam created many chances but only scored one goal, coach Kim Sang-sik said: "Everyone saw that we had many dangerous situations, but the Singapore goalkeeper played excellently. We will continue to improve our finishing ability to make better use of opportunities in the upcoming matches."

The Korean strategist also expressed his happiness when U23 Vietnam received enthusiastic support from fans, and at the same time put his faith in his students in the final match against U23 Yemen.

Coach Kim Sang-sik said: “Today’s match did not have many goals, but Viet Tri Stadium had a lot of spectators. I feel happy about that. The enthusiastic cheering from the fans is a great source of motivation for the players.”

Looking ahead to the final match against U23 Yemen, a direct competitor for a ticket to the Final Round, Coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed: “We will analyze carefully and prepare thoroughly. With the quality of the current squad, I am confident that U23 Vietnam can win.

Yemen has a solid defense and good physique, but we have fast players to exploit the space behind."

With the victory over U23 Singapore, U23 Vietnam continues to maintain the top position in Group C.

Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team only need to avoid losing to U23 Yemen in the final match on September 9 to secure a ticket to the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Finals in Saudi Arabia.
