On the evening of June 10, the Malaysian team ended more than 10 years of not being able to defeat Vietnam with a 4-0 victory right at Bukit Jalil Stadium in the second match of Group F of the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

Opening the press conference, coach Peter Cklamovski said that the Malaysian players were all motivated to win this match.

He said: "My players played with great determination, not only for the national flag but also to show gratitude to the families who are suffering from the recent tragedy (15 students died in a bus collision in the early morning of June 9 - PV). They really fought for something bigger than themselves."

"I am very proud of the players' efforts. From the first day of the meeting on May 19, we set a goal of heading to the Asian Cup. Today's victory is a stepping stone and a worthy reward for the efforts and aspirations of the whole team," the Australian coach added.

Despite the big win, coach Peter Cklamovski said the Malaysian team still needs to improve, especially in terms of fitness. "Before the match, many predicted that we would not be able to run more than the Vietnamese players. In fact, my players tried their best for the entire 97 minutes."

Assessing the difference between the first and second halves of the match, coach Peter Cklamovski shared: "In the first half, we created some chances and should have taken the lead. But the most important factor in the second half was discipline - positional discipline, team structure in attack and defense - thanks to which we won."

Completely dominating the Vietnamese team thanks to a squad of quality naturalized players, but coach Peter Cklamovski believes that solidarity is Malaysia's real strength.

"Malaysia does not depend on any individual. Even the players who came off the bench had a clear impact. This is a victory of a cohesive team, not of an optimal 11 players," he said.

Coach Peter Cklamovski also thanked the Malaysian fans. "I would like to thank the fans who filled the Bukit Jalil stadium and made the match special. Hopefully tonight's performance and what is being built will inspire the fans."

"There have been obstacles for the national team, complaints about us having so many naturalized players. I'm fed up with that and have said a lot in interviews. Hopefully today's result will lessen the complaints."

Answering the question "What are your plans for the domestic players?", coach Peter Cklamovski said: "This is an interesting challenge. Because we have just finished the season, we have to divide the training camp into 3 stages, then play a friendly match with Cape Verde.

In the final stage, Malaysia has new players but still relies on the team spirit built from previous groups. The quality of the team is improving, but there is still a lot to do."
