Korean expert Park Chung-gun will not be returning to Vietnam for work, despite the program being scheduled for September 24th.
SGGP has learned that shooting expert Park Chung-gun will not be meeting with sports officials as planned. Previously, Mr. Park Chung-gun returned to South Korea in early September for family matters. In a statement to the Vietnamese press, Mr. Park Chung-gun had expressed his intention to meet with sports officials as scheduled on September 24th, once the two parties had established contact.
In fact, Mr. Park Chung-gun will not be doing this and has changed his plans. Similarly, any program continuing to work with Vietnamese sports (if any) and the Vietnamese shooting team currently coached by Mr. Park Chung-gun will not proceed once the Korean expert makes his decision. Mr. Park Chung-gun has responded to representatives of the Department of Sports and Physical Education regarding this decision.
The employment contract between Mr. Park Chung-gun and Vietnamese sports for 2024 expired on August 31st.
On September 12th, since they were unable to meet with expert Park Chung-gun (who was in South Korea) in person, the sports sector sent an email to the coach. The email stated: “Over the past 10 years, under your guidance, Vietnamese shooting has achieved proud accomplishments. Although we did not meet expectations at the recent Paris Olympics, there were still some bright spots to be noted.”
The Department of Sports and Physical Education thanks you for your companionship with the Vietnamese shooting team. We always acknowledge your contributions to shooting as well as your affection for Vietnam. To prepare for the goal of winning gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Olympics according to our strategy, the Department of Sports and Physical Education needs time to review, evaluate, and adjust the plans for key sports. Therefore, we will inform you of our cooperation and invitation for you to continue coaching the shooting team as soon as possible.
The Department of Sports and Physical Education hopes to have the opportunity to continue working with you in the future. We hope you will be a bridge contributing to the development of sports relations between Vietnam and South Korea. Once again, we sincerely thank you and wish you and your entire family all the best!
