Santo's sacking seemed to have been predicted by him. In August, Santo himself admitted that the most important reason for his dismissal was due to his deteriorating relationship with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Although he has just extended his contract with Nottingham Forest until the end of 2028, recently, a series of prestigious media agencies such as The Athletic, Record, Sky Sports and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano have all confirmed that coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been officially fired by the Premier League team.

The conflict between coach Santo and owner Marinakis is not new. The two sides had a tense argument on the field since the end of last season.

Disagreements over management and team development continued to escalate during the pre-season, causing a rift between the Portuguese coach and the Greek boss and eventually leading to the decision to fire him.

The departure of coach Santo has made him the first manager to lose his job in the Premier League this season. This is a big shock for Nottingham Forest fans, because despite many problems, the team under the Portuguese coach still shows positive potential.

After a very successful 2024-25 season, especially a ticket to the Europa League 2025-26, Coach Santo has won the love and trust of Nottingham Forest fans. However, that has not changed the decision of billionaire Marinakis.

Nottingham Forest started the season with a 3-1 win over Brentford, followed by a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace. However, a 0-3 home defeat to West Ham in the third round of the Premier League further pushed Nottingham's owners to make the decision to sack manager Santo.

The change of manager has left Nottingham Forest in disarray ahead of their trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal. The match takes place at 6:30 p.m. on September 13.
