Coach Ruben Amorim reveals for the first time the reason why goalkeeper Onana left Man Utd

(Dan Tri) - Before the Manchester derby, coach Ruben Amorim shared the reason he decided to let goalkeeper Andre Onana leave Man Utd this season.

“We needed a change. Sometimes it's hard to pinpoint the reason. It's the performance, it's the moments.

There were times when bad luck affected him, affected us. It forced us to think about changing the goalkeeper," coach Ruben Amorim shared about letting goalkeeper Andre Onana leave Man Utd before the "Red Devils" away match at Etihad Stadium against Man City at 10:30 p.m. tomorrow (September 14).

Accordingly, the goalkeeper from Cameroom has reached an agreement to leave Man Utd to join Turkish club Trabzonspor on loan for one season.

Despite his error-strewn performances last season, Onana returned to Carrington in July with the expectation of becoming the first-choice goalkeeper. However, he missed much of pre-season through injury and when he recovered, second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayindir replaced Onana.

When Onana got his chance to start against Grimsby Town in the League Cup, he made two mistakes that helped the League Two side to a resounding victory.

And when goalkeeper Lammens from Antwerp joined Old Trafford on transfer deadline day (August 31), Man Utd's board of directors agreed with coach Amorim to let goalkeeper Onana leave.

“We saw Andre have a great season at Inter Milan. He was impressive at the time. But we are a different club and sometimes things can get more difficult.

He may be really experienced but at this club the pressure is sometimes huge on every detail. I wish Andre all the best. He does a great job, always trying to help the players.

Sometimes you can have all the qualities in the world , but sometimes you need to change the environment to return to your level. That's the feeling not only for us but also for Andre," coach Amorim expressed his decision to let Onana leave Old Trafford.

The Portuguese tactician also confirmed that despite Lammens' arrival on the final day of the transfer window, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will be the starter in this weekend's Manchester derby.

Meanwhile, he also revealed that Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot will all miss the game due to injury.
