Fairy Lake has clear, cool water, "hidden" among large rocks, sheltered by dense primeval forest.
At the end of April, Lu Duy Tuong (27 years old) and his friends traveled from Ho Chi Minh City to trek and explore Ho Tien. They traveled about 200km, equivalent to 4 hours by car on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highway to Long Khanh and then stayed one night at the campsite in village 2, La Ngau commune.
The next morning, the group began their trek through the forest to Fairy Lake. There are two main paths from the accommodation to Fairy Lake.
The path follows the stream, the scenery is beautiful but you have to be careful because of moss on the rocks, slippery, easy to fall and dangerous when traveling in the rainy season. The other path goes through the forest, longer distance, sunnier and dustier. This path has many turns, easy to get lost so visitors need a local guide.
The streamside road that Tuong chose was about 10km long, passing through cashew gardens in harvest season, with fragrant ripe fruit, dry streams, and winding red dirt slopes.
"Along the way, we met many people who go into the forest to make a living. They enthusiastically helped us show us the way," Tuong said.
Many shallow sections of the stream are slippery with moss, and near the end is a steep slope. "After more than 3 hours of trekking through the forest and uphill, a lake in the middle of the rocky stream appeared, the water flowing gently, cool and clear. Immersing myself in the water, in the middle of the vast green forest, all my fatigue seemed to disappear," Tuong said.
At night, the space became quiet, only the sound of insects, the sound of trickling water and a few night birds echoing from the deep forest. They slept soundly in the cool air.
"At night the temperature drops, accompanied by cold dew, so visitors should pay attention to keeping their bodies warm," said Tuong.
The next morning, the tourists woke up early to see the mist covering the forest canopy, listening to the chirping of birds - a rare peaceful scene. They had breakfast, then began to pack up the tents, clean the campsite, and return to La Ngau.
Things tourists need to note
Duy Tuong said that the trekking route to Ho Tien has no phone signal, so visitors need to report to the local forest rangers and inform their relatives in advance about the trip time. Visitors need to have trekking experience, be in good health and should go in groups.
"You should have a pair of specialized trekking shoes with good grip on rocks to help you move on trails, wade through streams and climb rocks more safely. Wading shoes are the best choice for the terrain to Ho Tien," said Tuong.
Ho Tien is located in the middle of a wild forest. There are no camps selling food or drinks, so if you stay overnight, you should prepare enough food, toiletries, and insect repellent.
"Even though I prepared very carefully, while I was engrossed in taking photos, I was still stung by a wild bee on my knee. At first it only hurt a little, but when I woke up the next day, the sting site started to swell and hurt for 3 days straight," Tuong said.
Be very careful when using firewood in the forest, especially during the hot, dry season.
From June to November, this area often has thunderstorms, the dirt roads are muddy, the roads along the stream have a lot of water, strong currents, moss on rocks, gravel is slippery, easy to fall and be swept away. The water level in Ho Tien also rises, the stream flows strongly so it is not safe for bathing.
