Azerbaijan and Vietnam have enjoyed strong and friendly relations for over 65 years. This cooperation began with the historic visit of President Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan in 1959. The visit was a special event that laid the foundation for strong and long-lasting relations between the two countries. The relationship between the two countries was further strengthened by another important event - the visit of Leader Heydar Aliyev in his capacity as First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR to Vietnam in 1983.

Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizada emphasized that this historical relationship is a solid foundation and a great motivation for all of us. With the strong will and determination of the leaders of the two countries, the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation, the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Vietnam will continue to develop and strengthen.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Anh Tuan sent warm congratulations to the Government and people of Azerbaijan on the achievements they have made during the 107 years of building and developing the country. From a country that had just gained independence in 1918, Azerbaijan has grown strongly, both economically and socially, becoming an important energy and trade center of the region, increasingly affirming its position in the entire Caucasus region and West Asia.

The two countries have a good traditional friendship, not only since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, but also since the historic visit of President Ho Chi Minh to Azerbaijan in 1959. Since then, this relationship has been diligently cultivated by the leaders and people of the two countries. In more than 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Azerbaijan have achieved many important achievements in bilateral cooperation, political and diplomatic relations have been strengthened and consolidated, with regular exchanges and contacts at high and all levels, through the Party, State, National Assembly, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Deputy Minister emphasized: The Party and State of Vietnam always attach importance to the traditional relationship and multifaceted cooperation with Azerbaijan, considering Azerbaijan an important partner in the region. Vietnam always remembers and appreciates the valuable support that the Azerbaijani people have given to the Vietnamese people in the past struggle for national independence and reunification and in the current cause of national construction and development.

The Deputy Minister also emphasized the great results of the recent State visit to Azerbaijan by General Secretary To Lam and his wife. During this visit, the two countries officially upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership, making Azerbaijan Vietnam's first strategic partner in the Caucasus region. This is an important historical milestone, as Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev affirmed: this will open up new horizons for the development of bilateral relations in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect.

Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan believes that, with the foundation of traditional relations, along with the political determination and unceasing efforts of the two countries, the relationship between Vietnam and Azerbaijan will continue to develop strongly and sustainably; he hopes that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Azerbaijan will develop increasingly well, for the benefit of both countries, for peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world.
