The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Da Nang City to inaugurate and put into use the project to upgrade and expand Tho Quang Fishing Port - Phase 2.

The project to upgrade and expand Tho Quang Fishing Port (phase 2) is a national key project in the field of fisheries, decided to be invested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment with a total cost of 250 billion VND.

The project includes many important items such as: upgrading wharfs No. 1 and No. 3 connecting to wharf No. 2; renovating the seafood trading area; building a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 300m³/day and night; along with synchronous infrastructure items such as embankments, internal roads, fences and gates.

Upon completion, Tho Quang Fishing Port will meet the standards of a Class I fishing port, combined with a safe storm shelter for fishermen in the Central region. At the same time, the project is also an important link in the chain of infrastructure serving the traceability of aquatic products, contributing to the effective implementation of solutions to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing that Vietnam is striving to deploy to remove the "yellow card" of the European Commission (EC).

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, emphasized that the project's commissioning not only has economic value, but also has profound social and humanitarian significance. The Tho Quang Fishing Port Phase 2 project contributes to modernizing fishing infrastructure, ensuring storm shelter safety, developing a sustainable seafood value chain, and affirming Da Nang's role as the largest fishing logistics service center in the Central Highlands region.

The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee also affirmed that the Da Nang government is committed to directing management and exploitation units to use the project effectively, in accordance with investment objectives, and to regularly maintain and repair it to maximize the function of the fishing port in serving fishermen, developing the marine economy, protecting the environment and the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that the fisheries sector plays an important role, contributing to economic growth and ensuring security and defense of seas and islands. According to the planning approved by the Prime Minister, Tho Quang Fishing Port is a dynamic fishing port belonging to the Da Nang Major Fisheries Center, playing a particularly important role not only for the Central region but also for the whole country.

The completion of the Tho Quang Fishing Port upgrade is of practical significance in the context that Vietnam is resolutely implementing solutions to combat IUU fishing. The system of managing and monitoring fishing vessels, tracing the origin of aquatic products and controlling loading and unloading of goods at ports will be an important link in the IUU control chain, contributing to improving transparency, meeting the recommendations of the European Commission (EC), moving towards removing the "yellow card", affirming the prestige and position of Vietnamese aquatic products in the international market.

The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment affirmed that they will continue to closely coordinate with coastal localities to invest in completing a synchronous fisheries infrastructure system, including fishing ports, storm shelters, fisheries logistics services, environmental treatment systems and IUU monitoring, contributing to building a green, modern and responsible marine economy according to the orientation of the Party and State.
