Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Huynh Ngoc Quoc - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hoi An City - said that on the afternoon of February 14, he had worked with and satisfactorily resolved the concerns of parents who went online to "accuse" the school of punishing their children harshly.

"We have worked, explained, and discussed directly with the parents and the school. The parents also agreed and said they would let their children stay at the old school. At the same time, we removed the articles and clips posted on social networks," said Mr. Quoc.

Previously, since the morning of February 14, the online community has been abuzz with a clip and image of a group of students being punished in the middle of the schoolyard, along with a status from a person believed to be a parent of a 7th grade student at a middle school in Hoi An.

This parent said that on February 12, her son went to school wearing a pair of sandals that had one side broken. Because of the inappropriate attire, the gym teacher took the sandals and "threw them on the coconut grove near the school," causing the student to be embarrassed in front of his friends.

The next day, because his parents had not yet bought him sandals, the student continued to wear another pair of sandals without a back strap and his brother's "skull jacket" to school.

When the gym teacher noticed a male student’s jacket with a “skull” print and improper sandals, he asked the student to take them off. In the afternoon, the student returned home barefoot and wearing a short-sleeved shirt in the cold weather.

Expressing disagreement with the school's punishment, the parents went to the school to protest. Here, the parents used their phones to record the conversation.

In the posted clip, which is said to be a conversation between a parent and a school representative, a teacher explained that the school has rules regarding dress and behavior, so all students must comply when entering the school.

This is also to replace parents in educating students. However, many times the students of the parents in the story violate the law, forcing the school to take action.

Parents said they agreed to discipline students who violated the rules, but that the families should be informed. The teacher throwing away his sandals, forcing him to take off his skull-printed jacket and leaving the students exposed is not in line with the spirit of education.

Head of Hoi An Department of Education and Training Huynh Ngoc Quoc said the department also reminded and shared experiences.

On the afternoon of February 14, statuses, images, and clips related to the incident were removed from most social networking sites.
