Quang Ninh Gia Phu used over 3.5 million VND from his savings to buy socks and donate them to friends in border areas during the severe cold weather.

Le Gia Phu is currently a student in class 7B1 at Hoa Lac Secondary School in Mong Cai City. More than a week ago, Phu accidentally read an article by his former homeroom teacher, now working at Bac Son Primary and Secondary School, calling for donations for the students. This is a mountainous school, bordering the border, where over 90% of the students are ethnic minorities (Dao, Tay, San Chi).

Immediately, Phu came up with the idea of helping his friends. When he shared it with his parents, the student was encouraged "because this is a good deed."

Phú said that normally, when he wants to buy something, he would think twice, but when he thinks about the children in the highlands enduring the cold and going barefoot during the harsh winter days, he doesn't hesitate for a moment.

Phú had an older brother who sold clothes, so he asked him to help him choose some thick, warm socks at a reasonable price. Bắc Sơn School had about 350 students, so Phú planned to buy 700 pairs so each student would have two pairs.

On January 24th, Phu was taken to Bac Son school by his parents to donate socks to his classmates. However, because the weather was below 7 degrees Celsius and the students were given the day off, Phu left the socks with the school.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Principal of Bac Son Primary and Secondary School, the weather here is harsh, always about 2-3 degrees Celsius lower than in the center of Mong Cai city. After the students returned to school, the teachers presented gifts on behalf of Phu. Everyone was very touched.

"This is a practical and meaningful act, stemming from the sincere feelings of a peer," Ms. Ngoc commented, adding that although the value of the gift wasn't great, Phu's action deserves to be shared.

Upon receiving photos from the teachers in Bac Son and seeing the students happily receiving gifts, with many even using the socks right away, Phu felt very happy.

"I feel fulfilled knowing that I've done something good and made my friends happy," Phu said.

The story of Phu using his savings to buy warm socks for his friends has been shared and praised by many teachers. At Hoa Lac Secondary School, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, homeroom teacher of class 7B1, said that teachers have used this story to help students understand that every action, big or small, as long as it is meaningful, is worthy of appreciation.

Speaking specifically about Phu, Ms. Nhan commented that he has excellent academic abilities, is quick-witted, and has a kind heart.

"I am proud of my students," Ms. Nhan said.
