
An archaeological site in Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh
At the 4th Congress (2025-2030) of the Vietnam Archaeological Association, looking back at the 3rd term (2019-2024), the Vietnam Archaeological Association has strived to overcome all difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing on completing the basic tasks and objectives set out at the 3rd Congress.
Some notable achievements include the completion of Volumes I and II of the History of Vietnam, the entries in the Vietnamese Encyclopedia, and the joint effort by various agencies to build the World Heritage dossier for the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots, which has now been submitted to UNESCO for consideration as a World Heritage Site in 2025. To build this dossier, the Association conducted research on 62 sites within the heritage area, discovering many new sites and artifacts of high value.
Members nationwide have participated in the excavation, research, and preservation of hundreds of archaeological sites, participated in the appraisal and identification of hundreds of archaeological artifacts of national treasure status, and contributed articles evaluating the value of relics and artifacts, especially articles contributing to the protection of maritime sovereignty through archaeological documents.
The Association also paid special attention to writing articles and directly or indirectly contributing many opinions from an archaeological perspective to the drafting of the revised Law on Cultural Heritage in 2024.
The Association also elected Associate Professor Dr. Tong Trung Tin as its President for the next term. The Vice Presidents include Associate Professor Dr. Bui Van Liem (also serving as General Secretary), Associate Professor Dr. Bui Chi Hoang, Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, Dr. Nguyen Van Son, Dr. Nguyen Van Doan, Dr. Ha Van Can, Dr. Nguyen Khanh Trung Kien, and Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son.
In the coming term, the Vietnam Association of Archaeology will continue to refine its operational regulations, complete the task of regularly preserving archaeological sites at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel World Heritage Site, and continue to effectively provide consulting services for research and preservation of archaeological relics and artifacts. It will also actively participate in advising on the development of dossiers for the Con Moong World Heritage Site, the Hoa Binh Culture, the Sa Huynh Culture, the Dong Son Culture, and the Oc Eo Culture.
Furthermore, the Association is committed to effectively promoting the value of archaeological heritage and directly participating in research, protection, and preservation activities of archaeological sites in accordance with the amended Law on Cultural Heritage of 2024.
