Vietnam Archaeological Association: Focus on protecting relics, archaeological heritage and training human resources

NDO - Consulting on training of archaeological human resources, participating in research activities, consulting on the effective implementation of the amended Law on Cultural Heritage to contribute to the protection of relics and archaeological heritages nationwide... are the tasks that the Vietnam Archaeological Association will carry out in the coming term.

An archaeological site in Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh

At the 4th Congress (2025-2030) of the Vietnam Archaeological Association, looking back at the 3rd term (2019-2024), the Vietnam Archaeological Association has strived to overcome all difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing on completing the basic tasks and goals set out at the 3rd Congress.

Some typical results include the completion of the History of Vietnam, Volume I and Volume II, entries from the Vietnam Encyclopedia, the joint venture of agencies to build the World Heritage Profile of the Complex of Monuments and Landscapes of Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac, which has submitted a dossier to UNESCO for consideration of recognition as a World Heritage Site in 2025. To build this dossier, the Association has conducted research on 62 relics in the heritage site, discovering many new relics and new artifacts of high value.

Members nationwide have participated in excavating, researching and preserving hundreds of archaeological sites, appraising and identifying hundreds of archaeological artifacts of the National Treasure level, and writing articles to contribute to assessing the value of relics and artifacts, especially articles contributing to protecting the sovereignty of seas and islands through archaeological documents.

The Association also pays special attention to writing articles, directly or indirectly participating in many opinions from an archaeological perspective contributing to the development of the revised Law on Cultural Heritage in 2024.


The Association also elected Associate Professor, Dr. Tong Trung Tin as President for the next term. The Vice Presidents include Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Van Liem (also Secretary General), Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Chi Hoang, Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, Dr. Nguyen Van Son, Dr. Nguyen Van Doan, Dr. Ha Van Can, Dr. Nguyen Khanh Trung Kien, and Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hong Son.

In the coming term, the Vietnam Archaeological Association will continue to perfect the construction of operating regulations, complete the task of regularly preserving archaeological relics at the World Heritage Site of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, and continue to do well the work of consulting on research and conservation of archaeological relics and artifacts, actively participate in consulting on the construction of World Heritage dossiers of Con Moong, Hoa Binh Culture, Sa Huynh Culture, Dong Son Culture and Oc Eo Culture...

In addition, the Association also determined to effectively promote the value of archaeological heritage and directly participate in research, protection and conservation activities of archaeological relics according to the Law on Cultural Heritage amended in 2024.
