47th ASEAN Summit: Setting a milestone for ASEAN

The 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26-28, is expected to mark a milestone in the development of one of the world's most successful regional organizations.

2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN Community. It also signifies the beginning of the implementation of the newly adopted ASEAN Community Vision 2045. This conference in Malaysia also marks the accession of Timor-Leste as the 11th member of ASEAN.

The international order is shifting rapidly, with increasing strategic competition and trade tensions between major powers. In the context of an increasingly defined multipolar world , nations are proactively expanding cooperation to strengthen their positions and protect their interests.

As a long-standing and cohesive regional organization, ASEAN is asserting its importance and central role. Many countries are reassessing ASEAN's role to seek opportunities for further relations, especially in the context of the emerging trend of "South-South cooperation" among developing countries.

Bringing together many of the world's leading leaders, such as the Presidents of the United States, Brazil, and South Africa; the Prime Ministers of China, India, and Canada; and leaders of ASEAN countries, the 47th ASEAN Summit is an opportunity for ASEAN to demonstrate its proactive role in addressing regional and global challenges.

With the theme "Integration and Sustainability," the Conference is expected to adopt 84 documents. These are anticipated to provide solutions to major issues such as ASEAN economic integration, maintaining economic resilience and regional autonomy in the context of increasing competition between the US and China, and accelerating the restructuring of global supply chains.

Furthermore, promoting solutions to complex regional issues such as conflict and political instability in Myanmar, and border tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, will be a test of ASEAN's capacity and unity at this conference.
