In his opening remarks at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Dan, Deputy Director of the project, emphasized the importance and effectiveness of high-tech crop cultivation, and highly appreciated the significant contributions and support from the Korean Government, the Korean Ministry of Agriculture , Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA), and the project partners.

The project aims to provide high-quality and safe food for consumers, increase productivity and income for farmers through the application of smart agricultural production models along the agricultural value chain, with specific activities including: Establishing a smart and safe agricultural value chain for three crops – tomatoes, bell peppers, and strawberries – from production to processing and distribution to the market; Enhancing capacity in production, preservation, distribution, and data management for project staff and farmers; Transferring and applying advanced Korean techniques suitable to Vietnamese conditions.

The project, implemented at the Potato, Vegetable and Flower Research Center (PVFC) in Da Lat, Lam Dong , and processing large databases at the Center for Digital Transformation and Informatics Statistics (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), was funded by a non-refundable grant of US$2.89 million from the South Korean government, along with matching funds from the Vietnamese government. Its goal is to improve crop productivity and people's income through the application of smart farming practices. Simultaneously, the project aims to ensure the provision of high-quality and safe food for consumers through the development of a sustainable agricultural value chain.

To date, the project has achieved significant progress in establishing high-tech agricultural infrastructure. A highlight is the completion and commissioning of a smart farm system comprising 16 modern greenhouses covering an area of over 5000 m2. These greenhouses focus on cultivating three main crops: strawberries, cherry tomatoes, and bell peppers – agricultural products with high economic value and significant market demand.

Another notable success of the project is the successful registration of the VIKOF product trademark. This is considered a crucial step in the strategy of building a brand and developing a market for the project's high-tech agricultural products.

Comprehensive development strategy

The project is designed with a series of synchronized and comprehensive activities, including:

The installation of a pilot model of a smart greenhouse production system in Da Lat, Lam Dong province, is a key activity in the first year. Simultaneously, the project focuses on developing a smart agriculture development strategy and researching the exploitation of monitoring data in the next phase.

To ensure sustainability, the project focuses on establishing a packaging and distribution system model, creating market linkages in Da Lat. In particular, capacity building for staff and farmers is carried out through intensive training courses both domestically and in South Korea.

Technical support from Korean experts in operating the system and pilot farms has significantly contributed to the transfer of technology and effective management experience.

Mr. Yoon Sung Won, representing the Korean project management team, presented the plan for developing a smart agricultural farm system in Vietnam.

Future plans

In the next phase, the project will focus on continuing the implementation of smart farming practices at the Potato, Vegetable, and Flower Research Center in Da Lat. Simultaneously, activities to promote and replicate the smart farming model will be intensified, aiming to transfer technology to farmers in the region.

This consultative workshop focused on discussing the "Master Plan for Expanding High-Tech Agriculture (Greenhouse Crops) in Vietnam," marking a significant step forward in the development of smart agriculture in Vietnam.

The project "Establishing a Smart and Safe Agricultural Value Chain in Vietnam" will continue to be implemented until 2025, promising to make significant contributions to the development of Vietnam's agricultural sector, especially in the field of high-tech and smart agriculture.
