This year's exam will still be held nationwide, remaining stable as in the 2020-2023 period with a scale of more than one million candidates taking the exam.
Head of the National Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam Pham Ngoc Thuong noted that with a large-scale exam, which is inherently complex and sensitive like the High School Graduation Exam , localities need to thoroughly grasp the spirit of not being negligent, subjective, and using experience to better perform their tasks.
“Relying only on experience can easily lead to subjectivity and mistakes. Therefore, localities need to carefully review conditions, content, tasks and especially have a backup scenario, so that in any situation they will not be passive,” said Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong.
This year, Hanoi has more than 108,500 candidates registered to take the exam at nearly 200 locations. To ensure the exam is safe and serious, Hanoi has mobilized about 15,000 officials, teachers, and employees to participate in exam supervision.
As an exam with two important purposes, the Hanoi City Examination Steering Committee is determined not to let any mistakes happen. 100% of the high school graduation exam scores are carefully checked, without missing any step.
At 1:30 p.m. at the Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School exam site, many students arrived early to check in. Student Lan Uyen said: “For the past week, I have been quite nervous about this important exam. However, today, I have regained my composure.” The female student said she had high expectations for Chemistry because it is her major subject.
Mr. Hoang Khoi Lai, Head of the Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School Examination Site, said that the examination site has 31 rooms with 744 candidates. This afternoon, candidates arrived to receive their examination rooms and listen to the regulations. Before that, the examination officers were also trained to recognize and identify cheating devices for filming and transmitting information.
"To ensure the exam takes place safely and smoothly, the exam site also arranged 2 police officers in the inner circle, the number of police officers in the outer circle will be arranged depending on the district's arrangement," said Mr. Lai.
Student Nguyen Xuan Khanh (Tri Duc High School) said: "I arrived at the exam site in Nam Tu Liem district quite early because my house is in Thanh Xuan, so I was afraid of traffic jams if I went far away. The purpose of the exam is to graduate from high school and to use the results for admission to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, so I am a bit nervous. I am taking the A0 exam, last year the standard score was 24, so I will try my best."
Nguyen Chi Minh Tam (Marie Curie High School) is quite confident: “I used the results of the entrance exam to Hanoi National University, group D1. I feel quite comfortable, not worried about anything because I have prepared thoroughly in terms of knowledge. Moreover, my parents do not pressure me to get high scores or to be admitted to this or that school. I expect to get about 24 points in group D1 to get into my dream school.”
Ha Kien Trung (Nhan Chinh High School) said that he entered the 2024 high school graduation exam with a relaxed mindset, without too much pressure. Trung had enough points to pass the early admission method to the Economics major of the University of Commerce and the Finance - Banking major of the University of Economics - VNU. Therefore, Trung only needed enough points to pass the high school graduation exam to complete the task. However, the male student was still determined to achieve the highest possible score.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City has more than 90,000 candidates taking the exam at 162 locations with a total of 3,800 rooms. The city mobilized 15,900 officials, teachers and employees to participate in serving the exam. One week before the exam, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training organized inspection teams for facilities and preparations at all stages, ensuring safe and smooth coordination. The Department also developed plans and situations that could occur during the exam to be proactive from the beginning.
According to Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, there are 3 candidates in special cases. Accordingly, at the Nguyen Chi Thanh High School exam site, 1 candidate had to lie down to take the exam due to pulpitis. At the Thu Duc High School exam site, 1 candidate suffered from second-degree burns and could not write the essay test. At the Cu Chi High School exam site, 1 candidate had a broken arm. These candidates were arranged to take the exam in a reserve room. The exam site assigned invigilators to copy the test papers for the candidates. The exam room was equipped with surveillance cameras.
Candidates need to check all the information on their exam card, paying attention to personal information and the registration section for the exam. If any errors are found, candidates must immediately notify the teacher for timely correction, to avoid discovering them on the official exam day, which will affect the test-taking mentality.
The 2024 high school graduation exam will officially take place from June 27 with the Literature exam lasting 120 minutes. In the afternoon of the same day, candidates will continue to take the Math exam. On June 28, in the morning, candidates will take the Social Sciences or Natural Sciences exam, and in the afternoon, they will take the Foreign Language exam.
This year, only 37% of candidates chose the Natural Science exam, while the remaining 63% chose the Social Science exam. Compared to last year, the number of candidates choosing the Social Science exam increased and was the highest since 2017.
