At a press conference on the afternoon of June 3 in Hanoi, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinematography, said that DANAFF III will last 7 days with many academic and professional highlights. Compared to 46 films in the first year and 63 films in the second year, the number of more than 100 films this year shows the growing attraction of the event, with about 200 screenings, double the previous years.
One of the highlights of DANAFF III is the launch of the “Asian Cinema Panorama” program, which brings together outstanding works that have achieved success at international film festivals in the past year. Many films have chosen DANAFF III as the venue for their premiere. The “Asian Film Critics Award” was also introduced for the first time within the framework of this program.
DANAFF III also launched a new program called “DANAFF Talents - Potential Cinema Talents”, which includes training and networking activities for young people such as acting workshops, “Project Incubator” and Master Classes with international experts. Although it was the first time it was organized, “Project Incubator” attracted great attention, with 14 potential projects selected from dozens of submitted applications.
The best project in the Asian art film category will receive 8,000 Euros from the French National Cinema Center and 3 months of support from the Mylab program; the Vietnamese film category will receive a prize of 5,000 USD from the American Cinema Association. Not only focusing on new creations, DANAFF III also dedicates space to look back at the history of Vietnamese cinema. The selected film screening program "Half a century of Vietnamese war films" introduces 22 typical works on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification. In parallel, there is a workshop "Imprints of Vietnamese war films since the country's reunification" with the participation of many researchers and filmmakers.
DANAFF III also devotes an important part of the “Film Spotlight” program to honor Korean cinema. 14 representative films from the 1960s to the present will be screened in the program “Imprints of Korean cinema through each period of time”, along with a seminar on “Korean cinema: Lessons from international success and experience in developing the film industry”.
Speaking at the press conference, Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, commented: “The efforts of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion Association, especially the leadership of Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, have contributed to promoting cinema activities in a professional and integrated direction. DANAFF is becoming an effective connecting space between domestic and international filmmakers.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee highly appreciated the role of DANAFF III in spreading the image of Da Nang in particular and Vietnam in general to international friends, contributing to promoting tourism .
This year's DANAFF III continues to maintain its trademark categories such as: Asian Film Competition (14 films), Vietnamese Film Competition (12 films), the program "Today's Vietnamese Cinema" with 18 newly produced films... The opening and closing ceremonies are broadcast live on VTV.
