Syrian media reported that on the night of September 24 and 25, Syrian Air Defense Forces intercepted several air targets in the waters off the port of Tartus, where a Russian naval base is located.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a London-based pro-opposition monitoring group, said at least 13 targets had been hit. However, the Observatory and Syrian media did not give any information about casualties or material damage.
Other interceptions were also reported over the coastal city of Jableh, about 47 km north of Tartus. Russia’s Khmeimim air base is located next to the city.

The Russian naval base in Tartus and the Khmeimim air base have been attacked by drones launched by Syrian rebels from the northwestern Idlib region. However, Syrian media outlets claim that the latest failed attack was carried out by the Israeli Defense Forces and that the targets were Syrian military sites.
The attack on Tartus came just a day after the Israel Defense Forces expanded its air campaign against positions of Lebanon's Hezbollah group, a close ally of Syria.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense has yet to issue any statement regarding the interceptions in Tartus and Jableh last night (September 25), and there has been no comment from the Israel Defense Forces. The silence is typical, as the Israel Defense Forces do not usually claim responsibility for their attacks on Syria.
It is worth noting that Israel has significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the war broke out in the Gaza Strip. The IDF has carried out attacks targeting numerous Syrian military positions as well as those of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hezbollah and other Axis factions.
Earlier, on September 8, Israel launched an unprecedented attack on a military research center near the town of Masyaf in western Syria. The attack, which was said to be a raid by commando helicopters, claimed the lives of 18 people, mostly civilians. At that time, information about the interceptions in Tartus was also released.
