On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on April 11, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology organized an exchange program with female artist Dang Ai Viet and introduced the website "Portrait of Vietnamese Heroic Mother".
Female artist Dang Ai Viet has been traveling tirelessly across the country for over 10 years to paint portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers with the dream that the nation’s sacred memories can continue to spread to the future. After more than 10 years of traveling across the country to paint portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, the “asset” of female artist Dang Ai Viet has reached over 3,000 paintings.
In August 2019, the Ho Chi Minh City Geographic Information System Application Center under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology decided to digitize and archive portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, because they not only have artistic value, but are also valuable spiritual assets, contributing to educating the tradition of patriotism for future generations. The project was implemented from January 2020.
The website “Portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers” (address: https://chandungme.vn/) has digitized more than 3,000 portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers made by female artist Dang Ai Viet from 2010 to present.
In addition to the portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, the website also includes pages introducing each photo, the stories of the mothers, and the circumstances surrounding the portraits. This is not simply an information page but a convenient archive, contributing to the dissemination and education of love for the homeland, country, and national pride to all classes of people.

At the launch of the website “Portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers” on April 11, female artist Dang Ai Viet shared that the website was born as a realization of her dream because paintings on paper cannot be kept for long. Digitizing and preserving these portraits is for the younger generations, so that they can see and remember the sacrifices of their predecessors for the bright future of the country today and tomorrow.
